Stablecoin Market Shrinks $7.7 Billion in June as Transaction Volume Hits Record $1.79 Trillion

The stablecoin market recorded its sharpest monthly contraction since the collapse of the Terra-Luna ecosystem in May 2022, with total market capitalization declining by $7.7 billion in June.

The decline reduced the sector’s overall capitalization by roughly $10 billion from its May peak, leaving the stablecoin market valued at approximately $300 billion at the end of June. 

Despite the reduction in circulating supply, on-chain activity remained resilient. Adjusted stablecoin transaction volume climbed to a record $1.79 trillion in June, marking a 63% increase from May and a 125% rise compared with the same month a year earlier. 

The divergence between shrinking supply and rising transaction activity suggests that stablecoins continued to see strong demand for payments, transfers, and settlement, even as the total amount of tokens in circulation declined.

Daily Zcash activates Ironwood upgrade, launching new shielded pool after Orchard vulnerabilityZcash's Ironwood upgrade went live on Tuesday, introducing a new shielded pool for the privacy blockchain following concerns about the soundness of its earlier Orchard pool.

Ironwood, which is also the name of the new pool, activated on schedule at block height 3,428,143 as part of the NU6.3 network upgrade.

Orchard, meanwhile, will now be restricted to only support withdrawals, though removing funds will remain discretionary. Orchard was previously Zcash's primary privacy pool, accounting for nearly 88% of the blockchain's shielded token supply at its height, with older shield pools Sapling and Sprout making up the rest, according to The Block's data.

Bitcoin and Altcoin Price Prediction: What Comes After This Bear Market

If you're tracking altcoins waiting for a real turnaround, analyst Jamie Coutts says the signs are building, but the confirmation isn't fully here yet. Here's what he's watching, and where he's already putting money to work.

Is the Bottom Actually In?

Bitcoin has been stuck in the low $60,000s since February, following what Coutts calls a capitulation low. Since then, price has mostly moved sideways, with one counter-trend rally of about 30%, which he says is normal behavior for Bitcoin bear markets.

His signal to watch: Bitcoin needs to break above the high $70,000s to confirm the downtrend has actually reversed. Until that happens, he's treating this as a probability game, not a done deal.

The Technical Clue: Bullish Divergence

Coutts points to weekly RSI divergences as his go-to signal for spotting when a downtrend is losing steam. In simple terms, that's when price keeps falling but momentum indicators stop confirming the drop. It's a warning sign, not a green light.

He had flagged the opposite pattern back in September and October of last year, when Bitcoin kept hitting new highs while momentum quietly weakened underneath. That divergence preceded the market's eventual top and the 50% to 55% decline that followed. Now he's watching for the mirror image. Whale clients are showing renewed appetite for Ether (ETH), a development that could benefit crypto customers looking to leverage market trends for returns. Data shared by blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain identified a mysterious whale who today acquired massive amounts of Ether tokens, an event that flashes a buying enthusiasm among large investors.

According to the market analyst, three new wallets belonging to the mysterious whale today spent $50.04 million in DAl stablecoins to purchase 25,425 ETH tokens. The whale bought the ETH tokens at an average price of $1,968 today, when Ether was hovering between $1,872 and $1,973.

The whale's move to buy this huge amount of Ether tokens paints a wider picture that institutional investors are quietly accumulating ETH at prices they consider a market dip, positioning themselves for possible upcoming price recoveries. The development is further supported by another serious institutional investor, Bitmine Immersion Technologies, which added another 10,000 ETH tokens to its Ether treasury today.

According to data from crypto analytics platform Cockpit, Bitmine continues to accumulate Ether tokens in its Ethereum treasury. Today, the company bought another 10,000 ETH and added it to its portfolio, bringing its total holdings to 5,787,414 ETH and making it the largest corporate Ethereum holder worldwide
