Japan's SBI Securities, Rakuten Securities plan to offer crypto investment trusts

Two major Japanese securities firms plan to introduce cryptocurrency investment trusts once the Financial Services Agency finalizes the regulatory framework for such products, Nikkei Asia reported.

SBI Securities, the online brokerage business and investment banking unit of SBI Group, one of Japan’s largest financial companies and Rakuten Securities, the online broker subsidiary of Japan’s Rakuten Group internet conglomerate, will offer investment vehicles that allow customers to access crypto through their existing accounts. The products will make it easier for clients to gain exposure to the industry.

In a Nikkei survey of 18 companies, another 11 firms, including Nomura Securities, Daiwa Securities and Mizuho Securities, said they plan to consider entering the market when the regulatory process is finished.

The offerings will include exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and be developed by firms within the broader holding groups, the newspaper reported. Spot crypto ETFs were approved in the U.S. in January 2024, and those investing in bitcoin now hold more than $100 billion in net assets, according to SoSoValue data.

In early April, the Japanese government approved a draft amendment classifying cryptocurrencies as financial products under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, rather than treating them as payment tools. If passed by parliament, the law could take effect in fiscal 2027.

Bitcoin Flashes Overheating Signal as Average Realized Profit Hits 17%

Bitcoin investors' average realized profit has reached 17%, signaling potential short-term overheating, according to crypto analyst Ali Martinez.

On May 17, Martinez wrote that the average realized profit for Bitcoin traders had climbed to 17%. It marks the first time since October 2025 that the average investor has entered a meaningful profit zone.

That may fuel profit-taking pressure. With average investors sitting on solid gains, some holders could begin selling.

Martinez also highlighted that Bitcoin is testing its 200-day moving average as resistance.

He added that in March 2022, Bitcoin's average realized profit also reached 17% while the cryptocurrency was testing the 200-day moving average as resistance. At the time, that level marked a short-term peak before the downtrend resumed.

Predictions from a 30-Year Analyst: “A Major Breakout Is on the Horizon for Bitcoin (BTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE)Macrostrategist Jordi Visser, a guest on renowned financial commentator Anthony Pompliano’s show, discussed the bottlenecks in global markets, the rising inflation regime, and recent developments in the cryptocurrency markets.

Visser stated that he specifically saw a signal of a “major merger and breakout” in the charts of Bitcoin (BTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

Visser stated that traditional institutions or institutional capital do not have a direct weight in Dogecoin, and that he uses the asset as an “alarm system” to measure individual investor enthusiasm in the market.

Visser stated that the Dogecoin chart is technically on the verge of a major breakout. He argued that a potential sharp upward movement in Dogecoin would be the clearest evidence yet of a strong return of individual investors to the crypto market.

He stated that Bitcoin would experience a lasting breakout if it surpassed its 200-day moving average (especially above the $82,000 level); and that the $2,400-$2,450 region in Ethereum carried a similar signal.

He added that global oil stocks are rapidly dwindling due to geopolitical tensions with Iran and strategic moves regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that rising interest rate pressures will eventually force the government to lower rates, which would be the biggest catalyst for gold, silver, copper, and Bitcoin.
