Marmot has warned that Bitcoin’s recent price rally could be a major bull trap rather than a sustained breakout. According to him, the rebound resembles a classic distribution pattern designed to shake out retail traders before a sharp decline occurs.

In his post on X, the analyst cautioned investors and traders against trusting $BTC’s bounce above $78,000, as market participants increasingly call for a price of $100,000 even as the cryptocurrency may still be in a bear market. He argued that Bitcoin’s real market move remains undetected and unknown to virtually 99% of traders despite growing bullish sentiment.

Supporting his bearish forecast, Marmot highlighted two identical structures on a Bitcoin price chart, showing that the cryptocurrency had experienced a massive price surge between December 2025 and January 2026 after its all-time high above $126,000. At the time, $BTC formed a triangle wedge pattern, where prices climbed to a range between $96,000 and $100,000 before a massive price crash to below $65,000 in February 2026.

The hackers that stole $290 million in the KelpDAO exploit are beginning to launder their ill-gotten gains, according to onchain sleuth ZachXBT and data from Arkham.

Arkham shows that the wallet in control of the proceeds of the exploit sent two transfers of $117 million and $58 million on the Ethereum blockchain during European hours on Tuesday.

ZachXBT reported that a portion of the stolen funds has already begun moving across chains. Roughly $1.5 million was bridged from Ethereum to Bitcoin via Thorchain, alongside an additional $78,000 routed through the privacy protocol Umbra. North Korean hackers Lazarus Group have previously used protocols like Thorchain to launder funds.

Cross-chain routing and privacy tools are commonly used in the early ‘layering’ stage of laundering, suggesting the attacker may be preparing to further disperse the funds across multiple venues.

The KelpDAO exploit is one of the largest decentralized finance breaches in recent months, spurring a wave of negative sentiment across the DeFi sector and fears over contagion will spread to other blockchains.

Layer 2 network Arbitrum said Monday it had frozen $71 million in ether linked to the hack, a move that could pressure the exploiter to accelerate efforts to move and launder the remaining funds.

The crypto market is showing signs of strength on Tuesday with bitcoin rising to $76,500, a gain of about 1% since midnight UTC.

The price spiked to around $77,000 at 9:45 a.m. before meeting a wave of spot sellers, who are probably protecting a potential breakout above Friday's high of $78,300.

Ether ($ETH) lagged behind bitcoin, rising just 0.3% to $2,320 as investors remained cautious around altcoins following the $290 million exploit on KelpDAO over the weekend.

Price action is still being dictated by the war in Iran, with the U.S. vice president due to travel to Pakistan for peace talks. A resolution is likely to lower oil prices, helping boost risk assets that have been inversely correlated since the war began.

U.S. stock index futures rose, demonstrating a return to risk-on sentiment.

Derivatives positioning

The long-short ratio for the crypto futures market is 50.68%, indicating a near-even split between bullish and bearish positions. In other words, traders are largely undecided on the direction of the market’s next move.

In the past 24 hours, major tokens such as $BTC, SOL, HYPE and BNB have added 1%-3% in futures open interest (OI), a sign of capital inflows. $ETH, DOGE and ZEC have seen slight declines in OI.

Open interest in $AAVE futures has climbed to a record 3.59 million tokens. At the same time, the OI-adjusted cumulative volume delta has turned negative — indicating that sell orders are dominating and pushing into bids — while funding rates remain near zero. Taken together, the setup points to a slight bearish bias.

Still, she argues that uncertainty shouldn’t block progress. Creating a migration path now would not only enhance security but also generate real adoption data, helping the network make better decisions in the future.
She also dismisses overly complex or impractical solutions, such as experimental script-based protections or costly “escape hatch” mechanisms, noting they are not suitable for large-scale deployment.
