Strategy (MSTR) Pauses Bitcoin Buys Ahead of Earnings, Stock Jumps Over 10% in 2 Days

Strategy paused its weekly bitcoin buys ahead of earnings as investors zero in on losses and the durability of its capital-raising machine.

Strategy halted its bitcoin buying streak days before earnings, a pause that underscores how much the company now revolves around capital markets rather than software.

Chairman Michael Saylor said Sunday the firm would skip purchases this week and resume next week, marking only the second break this year in what has become a steady accumulation program.

The timing places the decision ahead of Tuesday’s first-quarter report, where analysts expect revenue growth alongside another loss tied to bitcoin accounting and financing costs. Estimates point to revenue near $125 million, up from $111.1 million a year earlier, with a projected per-share loss that varies widely across forecasts.

Strategy holds about 818,334 bitcoin, or close to 3.9% of total supply, reinforcing its position as the largest public bitcoin treasury. Its most recent buy added 3,273 BTC at an average price near $77,900. 

Bitcoin traded around $80,000 in early Monday hours, extending a rebound that has lifted sentiment across crypto markets. 

Because of this price jump, Strategy’s stock was up 3% in early market trading. Over the last two days, MSTR is up over 10%. 

The bitcoin purchase pause itself may reflect standard pre-earnings caution, yet it lands as investors focus less on operating performance and more on the structure funding Strategy’s accumulation.

The company has shifted from a software firm with a bitcoin position into a financing vehicle built to convert market demand into bitcoin exposure. That model relies on continuous access to capital through common stock issuance and preferred shares, including its high-yield STRC instrument.

Bitcoin Price Rockets Past $81,000 for the First Time Since January





Bitcoin price broke above $81,000 during Asian trading hours and early U.S. hours today, its highest price since late January and the latest sign that the market has moved past a brutal first-quarter stretch that bottomed near $60,000.

The move came on the back of several forces hitting at once: a flood of institutional money into ETFs, a shift in Middle East tensions, and a derivatives market that had been loading up for a run past $80,000 for weeks.

The structural setup for this was built in April. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $2.44 billion in net inflows last month — the strongest monthly figure since October 2025, when Bitcoin price hit its $126,000 all-time high. BlackRock’s IBIT alone captured $1.71 billion of that total, a 70% market share that keeps widening the gap between the fund and every other ETF in the space.

Strategy, the Michael Saylor-led firm, also confirmed several massive Bitcoin purchases in April, bringing its total holdings to 818,334 $BTC.

World Liberty Financial filed a defamation lawsuit against Tron founder Justin Sun in Florida, escalating a legal fight between the Trump family-linked crypto platform and one of its largest investors.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, accused Sun of making false public statements about World Liberty and violating WLFI token-sale terms through alleged prohibited transfers, short-selling and straw purchases.
The lawsuit also accused Sun of spreading defamatory statements surrounding the crypto platform, demanding a court-ordered retraction and compensation from the founder. Sun denied the allegations in a Monday post on X, calling the lawsuit a
"meritless PR stunt" and saying he looked forward to defeating the case in court.
The lawsuit comes less than two weeks after Sun sued World Liberty over the freezing of his WLFI tokens, a dispute that has intensified scrutiny of the project's token controls and governance structure.
The escalating legal battle follows a period of growing backlash towards the crypto platform, which came under scrutiny for a proposal seeking to add a further two-year lock-up period for early investors holding the WLFI token, Cointelegraph reported on
April 16.
