Bitcoin DeFi Clash Heats Up

The debate is really about who will lead Bitcoin-based DeFi. Hoskinson has proposed bringing programmability to Bitcoin and even institutional assets through Cardano.

Philion, however, dismissed those ambitions, arguing that Cardano is unlikely to win this race. In his view, the future lies in building a unified DeFi layer that can support multiple assets seamlessly, rather than isolated ecosystems.

Flare’s Approach: Simple and Execution-Focused

Flare’s strategy is centered on interoperability, bringing assets like XRP, Bitcoin, and others into one system. A key example is its FXRP model.

Around 154 million XRP is currently locked on Flare, with nearly 140 million actively deployed in DeFi protocols. This shows real usage, not just idle liquidity, and highlights how the network is focusing on practical adoption.

Cardano Still Building Its Path

Cardano, however, is not out of the race. It is pushing its own Bitcoin DeFi strategy through new tools like Cardinal, which allows users to interact with Bitcoin in a non-custodial way.

There are also plans to expand support to XRP, showing that Cardano is still evolving its ecosystem.

Bitcoin's price rally has a hidden rhythm. Here are the hours and days driving gains.

Those looking to trade bitcoin's price rise might want to pay attention to a simple but useful roadmap. It consists of three months of price data from Velo, which shows the recovery from the early February lows under $63,000 to over $80,000 has not been evenly distributed across the day.

Specific sessions, hours, and days have consistently outperformed and knowing those windows could sharpen traders' approach to the market.

Data source Velo breaks the trading day into three eight-hour sessions: APAC from 00:00 to 08:00 UTC, covering Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, and Sydney; Europe from 08:00 to 16:00 UTC, covering London and Frankfurt; and the U.S. from 16:00 to 00:00 UTC, covering New York.

Bitcoin (BTC) is back above $81,500, trading around $81,585 after touching an intraday high of $81,698, as the world’s largest cryptocurrency continues a sharp recovery from the low $60,000s.

The move has taken Bitcoin to its highest level since late January and revived a familiar question: is this a short-lived squeeze, or the start of a more durable advance toward the mid-$80,000s?

For now, the answer seems to be that the rally has real support, but it is still moving fast enough to make traders nervous.

Ekubo’s exploit unfolded rapidly after attackers executed 85 separate transactions, quietly draining 17 WBTC through repeated 0.2 WBTC transfers. As the movement continued, the stolen funds flowed into Velora, where attackers converted them into $404K USDC, $403K DAI, and 239.5 ETH.

Soon after, the assets consolidated into 577 ETH worth nearly $1.36 million before being routed toward Tornado Cash. Mixers obscure transaction trails, slowing recovery efforts and enabling attackers to move freely across interconnected chains. Meanwhile, the exploit exposed growing pressure inside cross-chain DeFi infrastructure. Router systems improve liquidity efficiency, yet increasing interoperability also expands attack surfaces and smart contract complexity.

Consequently, repeated routing exploits may weaken user confidence, reduce short-term liquidity activity, and increase caution around approval-heavy DeFi participation.

Parish spoke about the “worst-case scenario” during Kevin Warsh’s tenure. Even in this scenario, he argued that it would result in the Fed consistently cutting interest rates, creating a general rally across all markets, from stocks to cryptocurrencies.

Holloway continued by supporting this view, arguing that even the most negative “Warsh” scenario would have extremely positive consequences for the markets, reducing economic uncertainty and creating a strong buying environment for investors.
