Ethereum Foundation publishes new mandate defining its role, core principles
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) released a sweeping new document outlining its philosophy, priorities and long-term role in stewarding the world’s second-largest blockchain network.

The 38-page “EF Mandate,” published Friday, frames the blockchain, whose ether (ETH) token is beaten only by bitcoin BTC$71,859.13 in market capitalization, as a technology designed to protect individual freedom in an increasingly centralized digital world and lays out the principles the nonprofit says must guide its development.

The document comes at a time of transition for the organization, following recent shifts in Ethereum’s technical roadmap and the resignation earlier this year of one of the foundation’s co-executive directors.

"The Ethereum Foundation is the original steward of the Ethereum project,” the document says. “The Foundation is not the parent, owner, or ruler of Ethereum. We are not ‘the system’ itself.”

At the center of the mandate is the concept of self-sovereignty, which the foundation describes as Ethereum’s core purpose.

“The first aim is to ensure Ethereum becomes and stays a decentralized and resilient tool for self-sovereignty,” the manifesto states. “Our first fundamental principle is that a user has the final say over their identities, assets, actions, and agents.”

To preserve that goal, the foundation says four properties must remain central to Ethereum’s development: censorship resistance, open source and free (as in freedom), privacy, and security, collectively known as CROPS.

“We hold that these properties – CROPS – must remain, as an indivisible whole, the sine qua non of all Ethereum’s development priorities, which cannot be displaced,” the mandate says.

The foundation also said it will measure its own long-term success by how unnecessary it becomes. For the time being, it will focus on work that no other ecosystem participants are likely to

After being trapped in a horizontal consolidation in the past five weeks, $SOL price broke out of its falling trendline on a logarithmic chart during the last 24 hours, according to analysis by independent analyst Clifton Fx.

Solana, with a market cap of roughly $50 billion, at press time, surged over 4% in the past 24 hours to trade around $89.18 on Friday, as per data from CoinMarketCap, a price-tracking platform for digital assets.

As such, Solana’s Open Interest, a dataset that tracks the total number of outstanding derivative contracts, spiked more than 5% today to hover around $5.46 billion at the time of this publication, based on metrics from CoinGlass.

Solana bullish momentum builds on robust fundamentals

Solana’s bullish momentum has been building up in the recent past catalyzed by the network’s robust fundamentals.


For instance, Solana’s total value locked (TVL) has grown steadily in the last six months to reach about $6.917 billion on March 13. Additionally, the network’s stablecoin market cap has increased in the past year to reach $15.64 billion as of this writing. Historically, a rising network activity on a blockchain has been associated with bullish sentiment and vice versa.

The midterm bullish momentum for Solana is also backed by the renewed demand from United States-based spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). During the past two days, the U.S. spot $SOL ETFs have registered a net cash inflow of $5.58 million, thereby increasing their total net assets to $824.87 million, as revealed by data from SoSoValue.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Market Oversight issued an advisory on prediction markets, reminding exchanges of their regulatory obligations as event contracts grow rapidly across trading platforms.

The guidance outlines requirements under the Commodity Exchange Act for designated contract markets listing event contracts, including product submission rules and core market integrity principles. The division said the advisory aims to support innovation while ensuring exchanges comply with existing regulations.

The notice also highlights considerations around sports-related event contracts, one of the fastest-growing areas of prediction market trading.

The advisory comes as the regulatory tone toward prediction markets has shifted. The previous administration sought to limit expansion of event contracts into new categories, but current CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig has taken a more permissive approach since taking office in December.

Platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket have helped drive the rapid expansion of prediction markets highlighted in the CFTC’s advisory. As institutional investors continue to increase their influence in the cryptocurrency market, US-based technology company Strategy is believed to have once again purchased a large amount of Bitcoin.

According to a report published by the crypto media outlet Bitcoin Magazine, the company is estimated to have purchased approximately 2,500 more BTC today.

According to the report, the acquisition may have been financed with proceeds from sales made under Strategy’s perpetual preferred stock program.

The company’s recently launched STRC Perpetual Preferred Stock program allows investors to use a portion of their capital to purchase Bitcoin.

MicroStrategy has long been one of the leading institutional firms that has placed Bitcoin at the center of its balance sheet. Through large-scale purchases over the years, the company is known as the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin holder. Therefore, Strategy’s new acquisitions are closely watched in the crypto market.

The report also highlighted a remarkable increase in trading volume for STRC shares. It stated that on the last trading day in mid-March, the daily trading volume of STRC shares reached new record levels consecutively. Furthermore, it was noted that even though the trading day on March 13th had not yet concluded, the volume had already reached high levels.

Analysts note that Strategy’s continued Bitcoin purchases through such financing methods indicate sustained institutional demand. According to experts, the company’s aggressive accumulation strategy is considered a significant example of Bitcoin being viewed as a long-term store of value.
