Chainlink teams up with 47 South Korean, European banks to speed up international money transfers
Blockchain infrastructure company Chainlink said it is joining a group of banks that collectively represent over $10 trillion in assets under management to unlock real-time, stablecoin-based cross-border payments for foreign-exchange trades within a year.

The coalition, called Project Pangea, aims to redefine the global FX markets, Niki Ariyasinghe, Chainlink’s vice president of Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, said in a video interview on Tuesday. In addition to Chainlink, the group includes Qivalis, a euro stablecoin consortium backed by 37 European banks, and UniKA, a Korean banking alliance representing more than 10 commercial banks.

The project aims to explore moving foreign-exchange settlement from a traditional 48-hour (T+2) timeline toward near-instant (T+0) settlement using regulated euro- and South Korean won-pegged stablecoins, or crypto tokens whose value is tied 1:1 to the underlying currency.

The initiative will evaluate whether the stablecoins can be exchanged through atomic payment-versus-payment (PvP) settlement, in which both sides of a currency trade settle simultaneously or not at all, thereby reducing counterparty and settlement risk.

The project goes beyond a tech experiment, Ariyasinghe said. Chainlink is drawing a line in the sand between theoretical "proofs-of-concept" and actual infrastructure.

"This is not just a POC," Ariyasinghe said. "Everyone's coming in with their eyes wide open. Appetite is very much about building real infrastructure ... The target is live transactions within a legal, regulatory compliance framework within the next 12 months."

A $150 billion trade corridor

The initiative is focusing on the trade corridor between Europe and South Korea, an economic artery that processes over $150 billion in goods and services annually, making it one of the world's 15 largest trade routes

The current reading stands at 10.2 million $BTC. According to the CryptoQuant report published by analyst CW8900, this level represents the strongest downward pressure recorded in Bitcoin's history.

The source's interpretation suggests that whales are absorbing the selling pressure at current levels. On the other hand, technical documentation shows that retail investors are experiencing a process of capitulation. This asset transfer occurs in an environment where the price has maintained a prolonged corrective trend throughout most of the current year.

Whales matter to any asset because of the capital they deploy and because they tend to hold for the longer term, unlike retail traders, who typically offload more quickly.Over the past 24 hours, whale entries into Bitcoin drew attention once again. One whale bought 500 Bitcoin—worth roughly $32.31 million—from custodian BitGo and moved the coins to a private wallet, signalling a higher likelihood that the investor intends to hold for the long termOn top of that, a traditional digital asset manager added to the buying, scooping 166.24 Bitcoin worth $10.74 million at the time and lifting its wallet balance to 4,515 BTC, worth $288.4 million.

Purchases of this size usually move the market, yet the opposite has played out—Bitcoin [BTC] slipped below $63,000 as selling pressure intensified across the board.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has sued Kentucky in federal court, seeking to stop the state from enforcing gaming laws against federally regulated prediction market operators.

The case names Kentucky Governor Andrew Beshear, Attorney General Russell Coleman, Department of Revenue Commissioner Thomas B. Miller, and the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation as defendants.

The CFTC says Kentucky’s actions conflict with the Commodity Exchange Act, which gives the regulator authority over futures, options, and swaps traded on federally regulated exchanges.

“Kentucky is the latest state attempting to shut down federally-regulated event contracts,” said CFTC Chair Michael Selig.

The agency asked the court for declaratory and injunctive relief. Kentucky says sports-linked contracts need state oversight.

State action targets platforms

Kentucky sued Kalshi, Polymarket, and partners tied to Coinbase, Robinhood, and Webull on June 17. The state said the companies offered sports event contracts without a Kentucky gaming license and without following state rules. It also argued that the products fall under the state’s definition of sports wagering.

The CFTC rejected that view in its complaint. It said Kalshi and Polymarket are designated contract markets under federal oversight. It also said Coinbase, Robinhood, and Webull are registered futures commission merchants that can offer event contracts through partnerships with regulated exchanges.

Moreover, the regulator described the targeted contracts as swaps under federal commodities law.

According to data from crypto.news, Bitcoin ($BTC) price dropped from an intraday high near $64,500 to a low of $61,990 on June 23 before stabilizing around the $62,000 area.

Bitcoin’s decline coincided with a sharp drop in oil prices after reports of progress in U.S.-Iran negotiations and a 60-day waiver allowing purchases of Iranian crude pushed Brent crude to its lowest level in nearly three months.

At the same time, a selloff in artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks weighed on risk sentiment across global markets, while gold fell roughly 1.5% and silver slid more than 5% as traders unwound defensive positions.

Crypto derivatives markets amplified the selloff, with over $600 million in liquidations recorded in 24 hours, the bulk of which came from long positions.

Meanwhile, institutional demand remains weak after U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs entered one of their longest outflow streaks this year, removing a key source of demand that had previously helped cushion selling pressure in the spot market. Coinbase’s premium has also remained negative, suggesting U.S. investors have been selling rather than accumulating during recent sessions.

Although diplomatic developments have eased fears of an immediate Middle East supply shock, uncertainty continues to linger over the durability of the emerging agreement. As recent reports revealed, Iran’s President has rejected negotiations over the country’s ballistic missile program, while Tehran and Washington continue to dispute claims regarding nuclear inspections.
