Trump said the war could end in the next "two to three weeks," but added,

We are going to bring them (Iran) back to the Stone Age, where they belong. In the meantime, discussions are ongoing... We have all the cards; they have none.

This was contrary to some expectations, as some quarters were hoping for an end-of-war announcement.

Following the remarks, oil prices rose from $97 to $108, suggesting traders expected further escalations.

But performance across markets was mixed. On the 1st of April, the U.S. equity market closed higher, but BTC stalled at $69K. It extended the losses on the 2nd of April to $66K, marking a 4% drop.

What's next for BTC?

The biggest portion of the BTC pullback happened on Thursday before the U.S. market opened. This meant risk sentiment may sour further, especially if U.S. ground troops invade Iran as speculated.

In fact, prediction site Polymarket was pricing a 62% chance of a U.S. ground invasion in April.

As the global economy faces the risk of renewed stagflation due to rising geopolitical tensions, auditing and consulting firm KPMG has issued a striking warning.

Diane Swonk, the company’s chief economist, stated that the war with Iran, in particular, has severely disrupted economic balances and could force central banks to take unexpected steps.

According to Swonk, the risk of stagflation is becoming increasingly pronounced when rising global energy prices and economic slowdown are considered together. Stagflation is a situation where high inflation and weak economic growth occur simultaneously, presenting an extremely difficult scenario for policymakers to resolve. Swonk warned that if this process cannot be brought under control, the US economy could be dragged into a “deep recession.”

Swonk noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, in particular, led to a sharp rise in oil prices, adding that the developments went far beyond a classic oil shock. He stated that rising energy costs increased production and logistics expenses, creating persistent pressure on overall price levels, and that companies significantly reduced hiring in this environment.

The combination of all these developments is causing both high inflation and weakening economic growth, and investors appear to share similar concerns. In his assessment of the current situation, Swonk stated that the Fed may be forced to raise interest rates in the second half of the year. He added that this step might not be limited to the US alone, and that other major central banks could similarly adopt tightening policies.

The crypto market’s nearly 21% drop in Q1 has moved almost in lockstep with oil prices.

Notably, this trend is set to shape Monday’s market, especially with equities likely to react. Take the NASDAQ (NDX), for example – It closed Q1 down nearly 6%, marking its worst quarterly performance since Q1 2025.

Here, the culprit is the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has created a massive oil supply squeeze. The Strait of Hormuz, responsible for roughly 20% of global oil exports, remains under serious threat. The impact is clear – Oil closed Q1 up nearly 70%, sending ripples across risk assets, including crypto. 

According to AMBCrypto, that’s where President Trump’s recent post comes into play. With the escalation now official, analysts are expecting oil prices to surge towards $200 per barrel. In this context, Monday’s market reaction could be critical, with the odds of a sharp sell-off looking high. 

Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s positioning index flipped negative, signaling that shorts are returning. This isn’t random. Instead, it’s a strategic move by traders, positioning for a potential downside in crypto once Monday’s session kicks off. With crypto heavily locked in a liquidity trap, even a small move could trigger sharp price swings, making the market extra sensitive to any catalyst.

Against this backdrop, President Trump’s post is now a key bearish trigger. Once Monday’s session begins, equities are set to react, putting crypto at high risk of a liquidation-driven bloodbath.

The metric stood at 0.065 at press time, a level that historically acts as a pivot for price direction.

This range has often served as a support zone, where Bitcoin stabilizes before initiating a bullish reversal. Similar patterns emerged between late 2017 and early 2018, and again in 2019, 2020, and 2023.
