A lot of investors asking what crypto to buy today are no longer looking only for hype. They are looking for projects that already show signs of product development, user relevance, and a stronger path to post-launch demand. That is one reason Mutuum Finance (MUTM) is gaining investor interest right now. Mutuum Finance is being developed as a decentralized, non-custodial lending and borrowing platform. Bitcoin price discovery: no longer just a demand story

For most of its history, bitcoin had a simple pricing logic: limited supply, growing demand and the occasional panic in between. That logic still exists. It just no longer runs the show.

What runs the show now is the derivatives stack sitting atop the asset.

From spot market to leverage system

Over the past decade, bitcoin has moved from a predominantly spot-driven market into a layered derivatives ecosystem. Futures, perpetual swaps, options, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), structured products and prime brokerage lending have transformed the way price discovery occurs.

CME futures launched in December 2017, giving institutions a regulated, scalable way to short bitcoin for the first time and providing a mechanism to express bearish views at the top of what had been a 19x run. The asset saw an 80% drawdown. That did not kill bitcoin. It allowed disagreement to be priced more efficiently.

Then came the 2024 ETF approvals, acting as the foundation for a new derivatives layer inside U.S. equity markets.

Each addition didn't change what bitcoin is. It changed where and how its price gets discovered.

Three variables that now matter most

Real yields and dollar strength set the macro backdrop. Bitcoin has increasingly traded as a high-beta liquidity asset and when global risk appetite contracts, it sells off alongside equities and other risk assets, regardless of what the blockchain is doing.

Bitcoin holds $69,000 as gold tumbles, oil spikes, but analyst says stay on sidelines

While bitcoin has shown relative strength against gold since the war in Iran broke out, investors are better off holding off "dry powder" while prices swing wildly on headlines, said Wintermute's Bryan Tan.
Bitcoin slipped to $69,000 but held up better than many traditional assets as Middle East tensions and attacks on energy infrastructure rattled global markets.

Oil prices swung back toward $100 a barrel, stoking renewed inflation fears and expectations that central banks may keep interest rates higher for longer. Meanwhile, gold and silver tumbled to their weakest levels since early February.

Bitcoin has outperformed gold since the Iran war, but the lack of follow-through above $75,000 suggests investors should remain cautious with dip buying, Wintermute trader Bryan Tan said.

Bitcoin BTC$69,164.63 drifted toward $69,000 on Thursday as the deepening conflict in Iran is spiraling across the Middle East, hitting energy infrastructure and spilling into global markets.

Oil remained at the center of the action, as investors pulled back from risk amid fresh headlines around attacks on energy infrastructure. Prices swung back toward $100 a barrel after a Politico report said the U.S. is not considering a crude export ban, reversing earlier declines and keeping inflation worries alive.
That backdrop weighed on traditional markets, especially as investors began to consider that central banks might delay rate cuts or even mull rate hikes, wary of inflationary pressures from an energy shock and supply disruptions. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq slid nearly 1% in morning trading, both hitting fresh 2026 lows.

The more notable move, though, came from metals. Gold dropped 5% to around $4,500 an ounce, its lowest since early February, while silver fell 6.6%,...

MLB taps Polymarket as exclusive partner, teams with CFTC on betting integrity after last year's scandal

The professional league and the CFTC also signed an MOU to discuss how to maintain the integrity of the game and prediction markets.

Major League Baseball has both struck a deal with Polymarket and agreed to cooperate with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on maintaining the integrity of the game.

"We're honored to announce MLB has named Polymarket as their Exclusive Prediction Market Exchange Partner," the crypto-based betting platform posted to social media on Thursday.

Under the new licensing deal, Polymarket will have exclusive access to the baseball league's data and iconography. Additionally, the prediction market and MLB "will work together to restrict markets that present an integrity risk — including individual pitches, manager decisions, and umpire performance," according to Polymarket.

The move comes ahead of the start of the MLB's Opening Day, and after last season, when pitchers were accused of taking bribes from sports bettors to throw certain types of pitches. Prop betting, where users can wager on individual decisions and performance, is prevalent on Polymarket, as it is on regular betting sites.

Polymarket told The Block by email that its deal with MLB builds on its "partnership with Palantir and TWG AI to develop a next-generation sports integrity platform, and reflects Polymarket's broader approach of working collaboratively with regulators and league partners to protect the game while creating new ways for fans to engage with it."

Aside from Polymarket's new deal, MLB and the CFTC said Thursday they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at discussing how to maintain the integrity of the game and prediction markets.
