Litecoin (LTC) founder Charlie Lee speaks about the quantum risk that is claimed to break Bitcoin (BTC)! “That will be the first target!”

One of the topics recently discussed in Bitcoin is the increasing quantum risk.

While some analysts argue that quantum technology is crucial for Bitcoin ($BTC) and that urgent action is needed, others believe the issue is being exaggerated.

As the risks of quantum technology continue to be debated, the founder of Litecoin (LTC) has made statements regarding quantum risk.

Accordingly, Litecoin founder Charlie Lee claimed in a recent interview that anonymous creator Satoshi’s $BTC would be the first target of quantum attacks.

Lee stated that while Satoshi’s identity remains unknown, the more than one million $BTC he is believed to hold are most vulnerable to such attacks because they are not properly protected.

Lee added that if quantum computing becomes a reality, Satoshi’s Bitcoins would likely be among the first to be hacked.

Lee stated that Satoshi is estimated to own approximately 1.1 million $BTC, and that these $BTC are stored in P2PK addresses, which could make them more vulnerable to quantum attacks.

However, Lee added that current quantum computing technology is still significantly insufficient to break Bitcoin’s encryption.

Quantum computing company PsiQuantum has taken quantum concerns to another level with its latest move.

PsiQuantum has taken another step closer to its goal of building the world’s first usable quantum computer. The company announced that it has begun construction of a 1 million qubit quantum facility that scientists say is powerful enough to crack Bitcoin’s encryption.

rA new research paper from ARK Invest and Unchained examines one of the most persistent questions in Bitcoin: whether advances in quantum computing could eventually break it’s cryptography.

The authors conclude that while the technology represents a legitimate long-term concern, it does not pose an immediate threat to the network. Published March 11 and authored by Dhruv Bansal, Tom Honzik and David Puell, the report argues that current quantum systems remain far from the capabilities required to compromise Bitcoin’s cryptographic foundations.

Bitcoin Quantum Threat Is Distant, Not Immediate
The paper’s central thesis is straightforward: quantum computing represents a real but gradual risk.

“Our two central arguments are as follows,” the authors write. “Quantum is a long-term risk but not an imminent threat. The community must continue to research and make plans for protecting the network as quantum computers improve.”

They add that even if breakthroughs occur, exploiting them against Bitcoin would be costly and slow. “If quantum computing were to affect Bitcoin’s cryptography, the process would be protracted and undertaken at meaningful cost to the attacker.”

In practical terms, the report notes that today’s machines fall well short of the scale needed to attack the elliptic-curve cryptography used by Bitcoin keys. Current devices operate in what researchers call the “NISQ era,” characterized by limited logical qubits and high error rates.

Breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography would require significantly more advanced systems. “To do so would require at least 2,330 logical qubits and tens of millions to billions of quantum gates,” the authors write, far beyond the roughly hundred-qubit systems typical today.

Tesla has received regulatory clearance to convert its investment in Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI into a small stake in SpaceX, formalizing financial ties between the billionaire’s companies ahead of the rocket maker’s planned initial public offering, according to a Bloomberg report.

Filings with the US Federal Trade Commission list Tesla as the acquirer of a SpaceX stake from Musk. The documents, dated March 11, also show Musk selling additional holdings to investors, including Valor Equity Partners and DFJ Growth.

The filings relate to Tesla’s previously disclosed $2 billion investment in xAI, which was recently rolled into SpaceX following the merger of the AI firm with the rocket company. The conversion would leave Tesla with a stake of less than 1% in SpaceX.

Musk previously acquired Twitter in 2022 and later merged the platform, now called X, with xAI in a $33 billion deal. That move paved the way for the SpaceX tie-up, creating a combined entity valued at about $1.75 trillion when the transaction was announced earlier this year.

DOJ and Europol take down SocksEscort network tied to crypto fraud

US and European authorities said Thursday they had disrupted SocksEscort, a malicious proxy service used by cybercriminals to hide their identities while carrying out fraud, including cryptocurrency account takeovers.

The DOJ said the service compromised at least 369,000 routers and other internet-connected devices in 163 countries, giving cybercriminals control over proxies that hid their true IP addresses.

The platform reportedly enabled crimes, including bank fraud and cryptocurrency account takeovers, since 2020. In one case cited by prosecutors, a victim in New York lost roughly $1 million in cryptocurrency.

Authorities said they seized 34 domains, disrupted about two dozen servers across seven countries and froze about $3.5 million in cryptocurrency linked to the operation.

The network received at least $5.7 million from users

To access the proxy service, customers used a payment platform that allowed them to purchase it anonymously with cryptocurrency, according to a statement by Europol.

Investigators estimate that SocksEscort received at least 5 million euros ($5.7 million) from its users.

“Proxy services like ‘SocksEscort’ provide criminals with the digital cover they need to launch attacks, distribute illegal content and evade detection,” Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle said.

“Operations like this show that when investigators connect the dots internationally, the infrastructure behind cybercrime can be exposed and shut down,” she added.
