$XRP’s circulating supply expanded through monthly escrow releases that exceeded the amount returned to escrow. Comparing $XRP with other crypto payment assets, an Aug. 19 analysis from 21Shares stated: “One metric where $XRP compares favorably is supply dilution. Circulating supply grew 5.5% year-on-year through escrow releases and re-locks, driven by approximately 272 million $XRP added monthly.”

According to 21Shares, $XRP dilutes its holders less than Toncoin, which runs at 9.6% a year, and Stellar’s XLM at 8.8%. Only Tron generated enough revenue to offset its supply growth, leaving holders a net positive return of 1.4% a year. The report added:

“$XRP holders face a net annual drag of 5.5% at current fee levels.”

The firm estimated that revenue would need to rise approximately 12,700-fold to offset one year of new supply at current market values. It also reported that U.S. spot $XRP exchange-traded products (ETPs) absorbed only 14.8% of the first-half increase in circulating supply and recorded net selling during two of six months.

According to the report, ETP buying covered more than half of new supply during May, the strongest month on record for those funds. Their $588 million annualized inflow rate still amounts to roughly one-seventh of annual net supply.

$XRP Demand Still Needs Direct Use

Broader use could create demand beyond transaction fees if $XRP gains a larger role in treasury management, payments, and liquidity. Anodos Finance has echoed Ripple’s earlier “north star” description of $XRP, citing the asset’s use for corporate holdings and employee payments.

Kalshi has blocked customers in Washington while asking a King County judge to reconsider an injunction restricting its prediction markets.

The Aug. 21 motion argues that Washington gave competing exchange North American Derivatives Exchange, operating as OG, more favorable treatment. Kalshi and OG are both designated contract markets regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Judge John McHale is scheduled to consider Kalshi’s request on Sept. 2 without oral argument. The existing restrictions remain active while that request is pending.

Kalshi implemented Washington geofencing

The amended preliminary injunction required Kalshi to install IP address and residency-based controls by Aug. 19. A broader GeoComply system using multiple location sources must be operational by Sept. 2.

Kalshi could face a $120,000 daily penalty for failing to meet the second deadline unless it submits a sworn explanation for any delay. The company told the court it had already blocked Washington customers.

The order covers contracts linked to sports, elections, politics, entertainment, culture, technology and science, along with certain “mentions” markets. Record-preservation requirements also remain in place.

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown argues that those products amount to unlicensed gambling. As crypto.news previously reported, the Washington court rejected Kalshi’s initial jurisdiction argument and found the state was likely to succeed at the preliminary stage.

That finding is not a final judgment on every claim. Kalshi continues to argue that the federal Commodity Exchange Act gives the CFTC exclusive authority over contracts listed by registered exchanges.

Bitcoin and Altcoins Have Surged, but an Analyst Warns: These Levels Could Trigger Major MovesAs the rise in Bitcoin price continues, lingering leveraged positions in the market have brought potential liquidation zones back into focus. According to Alphractal CEO and market analyst Joao Wedson, an examination of open positions over the past 30 days highlights levels particularly high at $61,000 and $57,000.

Wedson noted that numerous positions were opened when Bitcoin was trading between $65,000 and $68,000, around the $61,000 mark. It is assessed that a significant portion of leveraged positions could come under pressure if the price falls to this level.

The lower $57,000 level stands out as a stronger liquidation zone. According to Wedson, a significant portion of the positions at risk of liquidation at this level were opened when Bitcoin was trading between approximately $63,000 and $66,000.

The analyst pointed out that these areas are important not only in terms of liquidation levels but also because of investors’ stop-loss orders. Investors placing stop-loss orders around $61,000 and $57,000, believing the price is unlikely to reach these points, could further increase selling pressure in the event of a sharp decline.

On the other hand, there are also potential liquidation zones on the upside. Wedson stated that there is a significant amount of liquidation in the $85,000 to $86,000 range, but most of these stem from positions older than a month.

The company went public earlier this year, drawing significant attention from both traditional finance and crypto-native investors. ARK Invest has built a reputation for taking concentrated, high-conviction positions in companies it believes are misunderstood by mainstream analysts. Her continued accumulation of Circle shares during a sharp price decline fits that established pattern.

Stablecoins occupy a unique position in financial markets. They function as digital dollar substitutes, used heavily in crypto trading, cross-border payments, and increasingly in traditional settlement systems. Circle's revenue model depends partly on interest earned from reserves backing $USDC, making the company sensitive to interest rate movements and regulatory treatment of stablecoin reserves.

Analyst skepticism toward Circle likely stems from several factors. These include competition from other stablecoin issuers, regulatory uncertainty around stablecoin legislation, and questions about how sustainable reserve-based revenue will be if interest rates decline. Wood's public comments suggest she views these concerns as overstated or already priced into a lower valuation.

Decentralized lending protocol Term Finance lost an estimated $8.5 million after an attacker exploited governance control of its strategy vaults, according to blockchain security firms.

On Sunday, PeckShield said the attacker drained about 2,843 Ether ($ETH), valued at $6.87 million at the time, and 1.68 million USDC, which was exchanged for approximately 1.68 million Dai (DAI). CertiK made a similar estimate, placing the total loss at around $8.5 million.

The reported loss represented about 68% of the $12.45 million held in Term’s vault product before the attack, including nearly all of its approximately $8.8 million in Ethereum deposits, according to Defillama data.

Term Labs said it had irreversibly shut down all Term Meta Vaults and revoked their DAO governance roles, permanently preventing further deposits while keeping withdrawals open. Based on its investigation so far, the company said the underlying Term protocol and its direct borrowing and lending markets were unaffected, though it was still verifying the scope.

Cointelegraph was unable to reach Term Labs for comment. The company does not list a public press contact, and its direct messages on X were closed.

Attacker allegedly took control through governance

Onchain monitoring service Defimon said the attacker cheaply acquired a majority of a sparsely held governance token and passed proposals that allowed it to seize control of Term’s vaults. Term has not confirmed how the attacker obtained voting control or which governance functions were used.

The vault contracts use Yearn V3 infrastructure. However, Yearn said the attack involved a custom governance wrapper and the attack vector does not apply to standard Yearn vault setups.

Term said it was coordinating with external security teams on asset recovery and remediation. It said it would “explore paths to address” any remaining shortfall.
