Major League Baseball has both struck a deal with Polymarket and agreed to cooperate with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on maintaining the integrity of the game.

"We're honored to announce MLB has named Polymarket as their Exclusive Prediction Market Exchange Partner," the crypto-based betting platform posted to social media on Thursday.

Under the new licensing deal, Polymarket will have exclusive access to the baseball league's data and iconography. Additionally, the prediction market and MLB "will work together to restrict markets that present an integrity risk — including individual pitches, manager decisions, and umpire performance," according to Polymarket.

The move comes ahead of the start of the MLB's Opening Day, and after last season, when pitchers were accused of taking bribes from sports bettors to throw certain types of pitches. Prop betting, where users can wager on individual decisions and performance, is prevalent on Polymarket, as it is on regular betting sites.

Polymarket told The Block by email that its deal with MLB builds on its "partnership with Palantir and TWG AI to develop a next-generation sports integrity platform, and reflects Polymarket's broader approach of working collaboratively with regulators and league partners to protect the game while creating new ways for fans to engage with it."

Aside from Polymarket's new deal, MLB and the CFTC said Thursday they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at discussing how to maintain the integrity of the game and prediction markets.

US Senators Urge Swift Action on Bitcoin, Crypto Market Structure Bill
U.S. Senators are pressing lawmakers to advance legislation aimed at clarifying Bitcoin and broader crypto market structure.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis emphasized urgency in remarks today at the D.C. Blockchain Summit today, saying, “This may be our only chance to get market structure done. I can’t be any clearer: The time for clarity is now.” 

She confirmed that the Banking Committee plans to mark up the bill in April, after the Easter recess.

“We really are going to get it out of the Banking Committee in April,” she added.

Lummis also addressed a potential compromise on stablecoin yield, hinted at by Sen. Tim Scott yesterday. “We think we’ve got it,” she said, though she acknowledged she has not seen the negotiated language herself. 

She noted banks remain cautious: “We’ve got to get the banks to swallow hard…. Gosh the banks got really dug in on this. But they’re gonna get there.”

Sen. Kevin Cramer echoed the call for speed yesterday, warning that “time is not our friend” and urging passage of market structure legislation before Easter. 

The White House’s Patrick Witt is expected to provide further updates on the bill’s progress later today.

According to a pending settlement, Fidelity is set to pay $2.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accuses the financial institution of inadequately protecting its computer systems.In August 2024, hackers broke into Fidelity's computer network and made off with customers' personal information that may have included social security numbers, financial information, names, numbers and addresses, according to the lawsuit. A Fidelity forensic investigation confirmed the hack by a third party. An estimated 155,000 customers were impacted by the data breach and are entitled to receive up to $5,000 for eligible reimbursements, such as losses due to identity theft, fees for credit reports, charges to replace IDs and the cost of gasoline to travel to and from banks or other locations to resolve identity theft issues. All of those impacted may submit a claim for an estimated pro rata $100 cash payment. Up to one-third of the funds is expected to pay for attorneys' fees and up to $45,000 will go to reimburse costs of litigation.
