Former FTX Head of Engineering Nishad Singh Fined $3.7M in CFTC Case
Nishad Singh, former head of engineering at FTX, has agreed to pay $3.7 million to resolve a case brought by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over his alleged involvement in the exchange’s collapse and misuse of user funds.
Under the supplemental consent order, Singh will pay the $3.7 million disgorgement and faces a five-year ban on trading in markets, as well as an eight-year registration ban that prevents him from obtaining a license to operate in the sector, the CFTC said Wednesday.
“The initial and supplemental consent orders resolve the CFTC’s enforcement action against Singh,” the agency stated.
FTX’s bankruptcy in November 2022 sent shockwaves through the crypto industry, wiping out billions in market liquidity, shaking user confidence, and prompting authorities to accuse its leadership of fraud.
David Miller, the CFTC’s Director of Enforcement, said there will be no additional restitution or civil penalties for now, noting that the current penalties reflect Singh’s cooperation with regulators.
“The defendant engaged in, and aided, significant violations of the Act and CFTC regulations as the former FTX head of engineering, and the consent orders reflect the severity of these violations,” Miller said. He added that the resolution also demonstrates the Commission’s willingness to reward substantial cooperation in investigations.
Singh’s attorneys expressed relief at the case’s conclusion, saying they were “pleased that the CFTC recognized our client’s limited role in the underlying conduct and his extensive cooperation,” according to Bloomberg.

Data shows the transfer fees on the Bitcoin network has dropped to its lowest in 15 years, a sign of significant reduction in blockchain usage.

30-Day SMA Of Bitcoin Transaction Fees Has Seen A Massive Decline In a new post on X, on-chain analytics firm Glassnode has discussed the latest trend in the Bitcoin Total Transaction Fees. This indicator measures, as its name suggests, the daily total amount of fees that senders are paying to the network every day.

Users attach transfer fees with their moves as compensation for the miners who handle them. The average amount of fees that senders opt for is usually related to the activity that's occurring on the network.

The Bitcoin blockchain only has a limited capacity to process transactions, so whenever there is a high amount of transfer activity, the mempool can become clogged. When that happens, transfers can sometimes end up stuck in waiting for long.

Users who don't want to wait for congestion to clear up can simply opt to pay a higher-than-average fee, incentivizing miners to prioritize their moves. As senders compete in this manner, the Total Transaction Fees can blow up.

In contrast, users have no need to attach any significant amount of fees with their transactions during periods of little activity, as the miners will quickly process their transfers regardless.

Bitcoin trims big loss, stocks erase 2% decline, as Iran signals cooperation on key shipping route

The Nasdaq mostly erased an early 2% loss Thursday after reports that Iran is drafting a protocol with Oman to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns about disruptions to a key global oil route.

WTI crude oil — which had surged to nearly $115 per barrel as President Trump vowed to continue the war against Iran — fell about $5 on the news.

Crypto prices trimmed losses alongside, but remained sharply lower over the past 24 hours. Bitcoin at $66,700 is down by 3%, and ether (ETH) at $2,060 is down by the same amount.

Iranian officials framed the move as a matter of coordination rather than control. The country's deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said that even under normal conditions, ship traffic through the strait should be monitored and coordinated with coastal states like Iran and Oman to ensure safety. He added that the proposed measures are not intended to restrict passage, but to "facilitate and ensure safe passage" and improve services for vessels moving through the route.

The remarks come after U.S. President Trump on Wednesday night vowed to hit Iran "extremely hard” in the coming weeks and that the Strait of Hormuz would "open naturally" once the war ends.

Bitcoin fell after Trump's remarks and continues to trade about 2% lower over the past 24 hours, in line with crypto stocks, including Coinbase (COIN) and Robinhood (HOOD).
