CFTC no-action letter eases event contract reporting rules

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) market and clearing divisions issued no-action relief for fully collateralized event contracts, easing certain swap data reporting and recordkeeping obligations for prediction market operators and clearing organizations.

The divisions said Wednesday that they will not recommend enforcement against designated contract markets (DCMs), derivatives clearing organizations (DCOs), or their participants for failing to comply with specified swap-related recordkeeping requirements or for failing to report covered transactions to swap data repositories.

The CFTC said the no-action letter comes in response to numerous requests from DCMs and DCOs that list and clear event contracts and said it anticipates more similar requests.

The move could reduce compliance complexity for CFTC-regulated prediction market venues, including Kalshi and Polymarket US as the agency continues to defend its jurisdiction against state gambling regulators.

The no-action letter comes as prediction markets sit at the center of a widening federal-state fight over whether sports and other event contracts should be regulated as derivatives by the CFTC or as gambling products by state authorities. The agency filed an amicus brief in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday, accusing Ohio of “jurisdictional overreach” after it ordered Kalshi to halt sports even contracts in the state last year.

Kalshi sued Ohio lawmakers in October 2025, requesting that the federal court stop the Ohio Casino Control Commission and state attorney general from taking action, but the motion was denied in court in March, leading Kalshi to appeal the decision.

The Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF will trade under the ticker BHYP and offer 100% direct exposure to $HYPE, the native token of Hyperliquid. The fund is also the first $HYPE ETF to use Bitwise’s in-house staking infrastructure rather than relying on a third-party staking provider, according to the firm.

The ETF’s prospectus shows that the fund is expected to list on NYSE Arca under the ticker BHYP, with a primary objective of tracking the value of $HYPE held by the trust and a secondary objective of generating additional $HYPE through staking. The fund carries a 0.34% sponsor fee, which Bitwise will waive for one month on the first $500 million in assets.

Bitwise said the fund is designed to give investors a low-cost way to participate in Hyperliquid’s growth as one of the largest onchain trading platforms. Hyperliquid commands about 60% of global onchain perpetual DEX open interest, according to DeFiLlama data, and processes 200,000 orders per second.

The launch comes days after 21Shares debuted its own Hyperliquid ETF earlier this week, giving the market an early read on investor appetite for $HYPE exposure through traditional brokerage accounts.

According to SoSoValue data, the 21Shares Hyperliquid ETF has processed more than $4.47 million in trading volume since launch, based on figures through the previous trading day. The fund has also posted cumulative net inflows of $2.52 millio

Nvidia shares climbed to a new all-time high Thursday after reports said the US cleared around 10 Chinese companies to buy its H200 AI chips, reopening a major sales opportunity in one of the world’s most important AI markets.

The stock rose nearly 4% Thursday and was trading near $234 at press time, helping lift Nvidia’s market value to about $5.7 trillion as the broader tech rally pushed the S&P 500 and Nasdaq to record intraday highs. The move extended Nvidia’s record run after the company crossed the $5.5 trillion market cap threshold earlier this week.

The Bank of England is walking back key parts of its stablecoin rulebook after the digital assets industry pushed back hard against proposals officials now admit may have gone too far.

Stablecoins are digital tokens pegged one-to-one to a fiat currency such as the U.S. dollar. The BoE had proposed capping individual ownership of UK sterling-based stablecoins at 20,000 pounds per coin, with businesses limited to 10 million pounds, as a guardrail against large deposit outflows from banks.

The report notes that industry groups called those limits operationally “cumbersome.” Breeden acknowledged the criticism directly. “We are genuinely open to thinking whether there are other ways of achieving our objective,” she told the FT.

The BoE is also reconsidering a separate rule requiring at least 40% of assets backing a UK stablecoin to sit on deposit at the central bank, earning no interest. The remainder would be held in sovereign bonds and other liquid assets.
