In BlackRock Bitcoin news, the World’s largest asset manager has reduced the reported minimum for in-kind creations and redemptions involving its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from $25M to $1M, reports suggest that the change was reflected in an updated SEC filing.

This news comes as BTC USD is trading at $78,800, down -1.4% overnight but still up +22% over the past week following a huge rally that saw it climb from $64,400 to nearly $80,000, single-handedly reinvigorating the crypto market.


According to FinanceFeeds, in-kind creation and redemption allow authorized participants to exchange Bitcoin and IBIT shares rather than settle those transactions in cash.

The report said the lower minimum expands access to the process for mid-sized institutional participants, including registered investment advisers, family offices, and smaller trading firms operating through authorized participants.

FinanceFeeds also reported that retail investors cannot redeem IBIT shares directly for Bitcoin and that the change concerns the fund’s creation and redemption process rather than open-market purchases of IBIT shares.

Thomson Reuters has started transferring some of its legal AI tasks from Anthropic’s Claude to Thomson-1, which is an in-house model that uses Chinese open-source technology. This change is expected to reduce its costs, but at the same time raises another question concerning the security of using Chinese AI solutions in the uncertain environment of the industry.

According to Business Insider, Thomson-1 will reportedly carry out the document-review procedures that Claude undertook before this. Legal professionals, accountants, and various companies using CoCounsel and similar products probably won’t notice any significant changes in their operations. However, the most telling signal is the fact that the Western information company trusts the capabilities of the Chinese model that has undergone serious adjustments in-house.

Cheaper than Claude, by design

Expenses played an essential role in this case. CTO Joel Hron explained to Business Insider that the high prices charged by such labs as Anthropic and OpenAI inspired Thomson Reuters to consider the development of its own model. By developing its own model, the firm can leverage its IP rather than pay for service subs from third parties.

Hron explained that Thomson-1 won’t completely take the place of Anthropic. Thomson Reuters enhanced its partnership with Anthropic in May, and CoCounsel largely uses Claude. Instead, the company plans to take it step-by-step and only assign Thomson-1 tasks when there is a benefit to the company’s own expertise. Initially, the plan is to use Thomson-1’s system for “high-volume, structured document review.”

Witkoff sees such trading activity as organic “USD1 grew because institutions trust how it operates, and confidence at enterprise scale deserves the backing of federal supervision,” he said, and says the company is open to scrutiny from federal regulators.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued World Liberty Trust Co. preliminary conditional approval on August 14 to operate a national trust bank. This would allow the company to issue and redeem USD1 directly, hold the reserves backing USD1, and offer custody without depending on an external partner. 

It’s not exactly a conventional bank as it can’t issue loans, credit cards, and federally insured deposits.

That approval succeeded in fueling the debate around the demand for USD1. World Liberty aims to “drive mainstream adoption of USD1,” and Donald Trump has praised the 2025 stablecoin law he signed for making possible the “widespread adoption of dollar-backed stablecoins.”

What the critics say about World Liberty’s numbers

Bernstein analysts expect bitcoin to recover to a new all-time high of $150,000 by mid-2027 in its base case, before reaching a cycle peak of around $300,000 in 2029.

The analysts maintained their Outperform rating on Strategy but cut their price target to $350 from $450, citing an updated bitcoin cycle outlook and accelerated equity dilution.

Bernstein analysts expect bitcoin to reach a new all-time high of $150,000 by mid-2027 and around $300,000 at the peak of its next cycle in 2029, arguing that a broader "debasement trade" could provide an additional macro tailwind for the cryptocurrency.

In a note to clients on Wednesday, the analysts led by Gautam Chhugani said the 40-year era of declining interest rates has come to an end, with governments facing rising debt-servicing costs as sovereign debt levels hit $40 trillion in the U.S. "Rising yields create a self-reinforcing cycle of higher interest expenses, larger fiscal deficits, and increased borrowing needs, making debt sustainability a growing policy challenge," the analysts said. Bernstein expects policymakers to ultimately favor currency debasement over fiscal stress, potentially increasing demand for scarce assets that cannot be easily created or diluted, including bitcoin.

That thesis is also showing up in exchange-traded fund trading activity. Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas said Tuesday that the "debasement trade is starting to replace AI mania," with BlackRock's spot bitcoin ETF, IBIT, and SPDR's gold ETF, GLD, returning to the top 10 most-traded ETFs and displacing some semiconductor funds that dominated the rankings over the summer.
