This development, confirmed on March 21, 2025, from Seoul, represents a major milestone for the Internet Computer ecosystem and underscores South Korea’s continued influence in the global digital asset landscape.

Upbit $ICP Listing Details and Market Context

The Upbit $ICP listing introduces three distinct trading pairs: $ICP/KRW, $ICP/$BTC, and $ICP/$USDT. Consequently, this multi-pair approach caters to diverse trader preferences within the South Korean market. The KRW pair allows direct fiat onboarding, while the $BTC and $USDT pairs align with global crypto trading conventions. Upbit typically follows a structured listing process involving wallet integration, liquidity provisioning, and security audits before enabling deposits and trading. U.S. Spot Solana ETFs are close to hitting $1 billion in inflows, or 2% of their market cap, having debuted last October.

That’s only 18 weeks taken to climb to its current levels.  

In contrast, Brian Rudick, chief strategy officer at Solana treasury firm Upexi, noted that it took U.S. Spot BTC ETFs 55 weeks to reach 2% of their market cap.

In other words, SOL has seen relatively high institutional demand despite a bear market.  
Worth pointing out, however, that BTC ETF flows have mixed institutional players, with hedge funds hunting for basis trade (yield) as major drivers of outflows during risk-off sentiment. 

So, how does that apply to SOL ETFs and the altcoin’s price? 

Institutional bet on SOL: Conviction or speculation?

According to Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart, basis trade hunting or institutional speculation is not particularly prevalent across SOL ETFs. 

Unlike last July, when SOL basis trade was a whopping 23%, the yield shrank after the products debuted in October. In fact, the yield dropped to -6% in early 2026, yet overall ETF inflows rose to nearly $1 billion. 

The basis of Solana has been extremely low so far in 2026. This means the Solana basis trade is likely not contributing to the inflows.”

In fact, according to 13F filings with the SEC, institutions controlled 50% of assets under management (AUM), underscoring the massive interest in a young product, Seyffart highlighted. 

Impact on SOL’s price

That said, SOL’s price has been in lockstep with broader market sentiment despite the impressive ETF inflows. Even so, Bitwise found that Spot ETF flows now account for 25% of SOL’s price variance. 

Put differently, a quarter of SOL’s price moves are now directly determined by ETF flows.

Bitcoin [BTC] faced sustained bearish pressure, with the downtrend holding since its October 2025 peaks. Amid this prolonged downtrend, Bitcoin long-term holders saw their positions go from extreme profitability to deep losses.

As a result, some long-term holders capitulated and closed their positions at a loss. However, with prolonged loss-selling, it seems long-term holders are exhausted.

Bitcoin LTH activity hit bear market levels
Despite continued market weakness, Bitcoin long-term holders have significantly reduced spending.

According to Darkfost, LTH activity has decreased, returning to levels typically seen during bear markets. Such a drop, given the prevailing market conditions, suggests reduced selling activity from the cohort.

In fact, the group has reduced profit or loss realization in equal measures. According to Checkonchain data, LTH Sell Side Risk Ratio dropped to 0.000395, at press time, having touched October 2025 lows, suggesting exhausted selling pressure.

As a result, long-term holders’ realized profit fell to 1.1k BTC, the lowest since September 2022. At the same time, their realized loss declined to 2.7k BTC, underscoring reduced loss-making activity within the cohort.

Such market conditions suggest that fewer holders are exiting the market regardless of their current positions; instead, they have turned to holding. Thus, most holders have shown market indifference and are currently waiting for the next market move.

Historically, these market conditions have coincided with cycle bottoms, when sellers lose incentive to sell, and weaker hands exit the market.

This creates room for accumulation and sets the stage for a new price move. Darkfost’s analysis noted that reduced activity from long-term holders (LTHs) could keep BTC in a consolidation phase.

Bitcoin drops on Iran war uncertainty, AI tokens jump

Bitcoin $BTC$69,593.87 traded at $69,500 mid-morning in Europe after giving up Tuesday's gains following a rejection at $71,750.

The largest cryptocurrency dropped 0.55% since midnight UTC, a loss dwarfed by several altcoins, with zcash (ZEC) and aave AAVE$109.98 falling by 4.5% and 2.1%, respectively.

Gold and the dollar are little changed, while U.S. stock index futures added 0.15%.

The price action is still being dictated by the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, which continues to rage even after conflicting comments from U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Oil remained volatile as a result, falling to as low as $81 per barrel on Tuesday before bouncing back to $89 during the European session on Wednesday.

Derivatives positioning

Bitcoin's failure to build momentum above $70,000 has proved costly for bulls holding leveraged long bets. In the past 24 hours, over $220 million worth of crypto futures bets have been liquidated, with longs accounting for most of the tally.

Open interest (OI) in dollar-denominated bitcoin futures on major exchanges has declined to 226,000 $BTC from 233,000 $BTC. This indicates that the overnight price drop hasn't really seen traders short the falling market. The same dynamic is seen in solana (SOL) and ether ($ETH) futures.

Activity in XRP futures continues to grow, with open interest rising to 1.74 billion tokens, the highest since Feb. 23.

Broadly speaking, OI has decreased in most alternative tokens over the past 24 hours, a sign of renewed capital outflows.

TRX, CC and XMR stand out with a bullish combination of positive annualized funding rates and cumulative volume delta (CVD), pointing to active buying in the futures market. Most other coins have flat to negative funding rates and CVDs.
