Vitalik Buterin says a new “fast confirmation rule” for Ethereum could give users a hard guarantee that a block will not be reverted after a single slot, or roughly 12 seconds, a change that would sharply reduce one of the network’s biggest practical frictions for exchanges, bridges and Layer-2 systems.

The proposal, described publicly by Ethereum Foundation researcher Julian Ma and endorsed by Buterin on X, is designed to narrow the gap between Ethereum’s strong security model and the slower confirmation times that still shape user experience across the ecosystem. In Buterin’s words, the mechanism “lets you get a hard guarantee that Ethereum will not revert after one slot (12 seconds). Security assumptions are (i) supermajority honest, (ii) network latency under ~3s. So one step below economic finality, but very strong for many use cases.”

New Ethereum Rule For Faster Confirmations
That distinction matters. Ethereum finality remains the chain’s strongest settlement guarantee, but it comes with a much longer wait time. Ma said the fast confirmation rule, or FCR, cuts deposit times from Ethereum mainnet to L2s and centralized exchanges to about 13 seconds, which he described as an “80-98% reduction for most L2s and exchanges.”

For users, the immediate consequence is speed. For infrastructure providers, the bigger story is efficiency. Ma argued that slow mainnet confirmation has forced exchanges, bridges and rollups to operate around delay and uncertainty, especially when handling deposits or syncing market activity across chains. “Bridging funds from Ethereum to L2s and centralized exchanges is slow. Users wait minutes when using the canonical bridges,” he wrote. “The new Fast Confirmation Rule (FCR) solves that. It reduces deposit time from Ethereum L1 to L2s or exchanges to about 13 seconds.”

A dispute over more than $172 million in Bitcoin has moved forward in the UK’s High Court of Justice, where a man alleges his estranged wife stole thousands of coins from his hardware wallet using covert surveillance inside their home.

Court filings show that Ping Fai Yuen, a UK resident, held 2,323 Bitcoin in a Trezor hardware wallet in 2023.

On Aug. 2 of that year, the full balance was transferred without his knowledge. The funds were later split across 71 separate addresses through a series of transactions. No movement has been recorded since Dec. 21, 2023.

Yuen claims his wife, Fun Yung Li, obtained access to the wallet’s recovery phrase, which can be used to recreate the wallet and move funds.

The filings allege she recorded him inside their home to capture the phrase, possibly with help from her sister, Lai Yung Li, who is also named as a defendant.

According to the claim, Yuen had been warned by his daughter in July 2023 that Li was attempting to access his Bitcoin.

He then installed audio recording equipment in the residence. The recordings are cited as key evidence. In one excerpt referenced in court, Li is alleged to have said, “The Bitcoin has transferred to me” and “take all of it.”

The filings also describe a recording from July 29, 2023 in which Li allegedly discussed camera placement and the location where Yuen stored his wallet credentials. The claim states she was “covertly recording” him in an effort to obtain access.

After discovering the transfer, Yuen confronted Li and assaulted her. He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of common assault.

YZi Labs-backed perpetual DEX platform Aster has finally unveiled its Aster Chain mainnet. The new chain will adopt zero-knowledge proofs and stealth addresses in a bid to curb ‘position hunting,’ common on transparent public chains and platforms like Hyperliquid.

Initially, the DEX debuted on BNB Chain via a bridge and later extended to Ethereum [ETH], Solana [SOL], and Arbitrum [ARB] as a multi-chain dApp. While it will still support trading across these chains, it will transition into a sovereign Layer 1 ecosystem.

The move is aimed at achieving the privacy and other optimal features for high-frequency traders while maintaining a CEX-like user experience.

Aster’s market share falls

Although the DEX became an instant hit after its launch last September, the traction has waned significantly in 2026.

During its peak activity in October 2025, it handled nearly $74 billion in weekly trading volume. But its trading activity shrank to less than $10 billion as of mid-March 2026, following the broader crypto rout in the past few months.

Its overall market share in perps trading volume declined by half, from 40% to 20%, over the same period.

Interestingly, Aster’s wild FOMO after launch clawed down Hyperliquid’s [HYPE] market share. Hyperliquid had over 60% dominance before Aster went live. Afterward, its dominance fell to 27% but began reclaiming it only after unveiling trading support for oil, gold, silver, and other commodities via HIP-3.

As of writing, Hyperliquid has regained most of its trading volume, while Aster’s steep decline has not abated.

Likewise, its native token ASTER slumped 86% after a free fall from $3 to a low of $0.4. However, the broader market relief bounce from early February has boosted the altcoin’s recovery by 80%.
