Even though oil has dropped nearly 11% on Friday, crypto has followed a different trajectory. Bitcoin is up about 5% for the day, and both Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) have posted similar gains. The Catalysts Behind BTC's ResurgenceCommenting on the market reaction, Matt Mena, senior crypto research strategist at 21Shares, told Bloomberg that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is the "risk-on signal" global markets have been waiting for. In his view, removing what he described as one of the most significant geopolitical choke points has helped "uncork" a larger wave of liquidity and investor confidence, supporting demand across risk assets-including digital currencies. One notable driver is institutional buying: Strategy (previously MicroStrategy) has acquired $2.6 billion in Bitcoin during the past two weeks. According to Bohan Jiang, a senior derivatives trader at FalconX, this has helped "underpin" the market, providing additional support as prices rebound. Still, investors are now looking for clarity on how far the rally can extend. What's Next For Bitcoin? "First of all is who would have the technology and the expertise to create something like the blockchain. Second of all, you have to ask who would benefit from this blockchain creation. The third question you want to ask is why would they keep it secret?"From there, Jiang argued that the likely candidates were US intelligence and defense agencies, citing the role government-linked institutions played in building foundational internet infrastructure. "Probably the same people who created the internet, probably the same people who created GPS, DARPA, NSA, CIA, probably these guys, he said. In his telling, blockchain would serve two strategic purposes: surveillance and covert financing.

Iran's Friday announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened during the current ceasefire triggered one of the sharpest oil reversals of the year.

Brent crude fell 12.95% to $86.52, and WTI dropped 14.26% to $81.19, both their lowest levels since Mar. 11 and the largest single-day declines since Apr. 8. US stocks surged, bond yields dropped, the dollar weakened, and Bitcoin registered an intraday high of $78,336.

Traders stripped the war premium they had spent weeks layering into crude prices, and risk assets repriced accordingly.

Yesterday, the Strait was opened on Iranian terms. Commercial vessels required authorization from Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization and the IRGC and had to transit through Iran-designated safe lanes, but the US blockade on Iranian shipping remains fully in place until a broader diplomatic settlement.

That window has already narrowed. As of Apr. 18, Iran said it had closed the Strait again after the US left its blockade in place, pushing the market back into a countdown toward the Apr. 22 ceasefire deadline.

Only eight oil and gas tankers moved during the reopening, underscoring how far the route remains from anything resembling normal traffic.

Strategy looks to boost preferred stock STRC's dividend payments to semi-monthly
If approved by shareholders, STRC would pay a dividend twice per month.

STRC is a perpetual preferred stock designed to trade near a $100 par value while paying a variable cash dividend, currently at an annualized rate of 11.5%.
Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy Inc. (MSTR) is proposing to update the dividend payment schedule for its STRC preferred stock, according to an announcement on Friday.

If approved by shareholders, Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) would shift from paying dividends once a month to twice a month. The company states that the change could "lead to reduced reinvestment lag, enhanced liquidity, market efficiency, and increased price stability."

STRC is a perpetual preferred stock designed to trade near a $100 par value while paying a variable cash dividend, currently at an annualized rate of 11.5%. The dividend rate adjusts monthly in an effort to encourage trading close to par and minimize volatility.

Strategy has issued a suite of preferred stocks that rank above its common stock, MSTR. These instruments — including STRF (Strife), STRE (Stream), STRK (Strike), and STRD (Stride), and STRC (Stretch) — have helped the company raise billions of dollars to support its bitcoin acquisition strategy.

Unlike STRC, Strategy’s other preferred stocks have fixed dividend rates. Earlier this week, STRC recorded a $1.1 billion trading day, up nearly 50% from its previous high.

According to the statement, Strategy will hold an annual meeting on June 8 when the voting on the proposal Stretch update closes. The first record date under the new semi-monthly schedule, if approved, is June 30, with the first payment expected July 15.
