Ice Open Network News: CEO Cuts Monthly Costs by 89%, Promises New Product Launch in 8 Weeks

Ice Open Network’s CEO published a detailed update on Wednesday outlining dramatic cost cuts and a new strategic direction, two days after the project came close to announcing a full shutdown following the ION token crash.

Monthly operating costs have been reduced from approximately $400,000 to $45,000, an 89% cut achieved in 48 hours. The CEO described it as moving fast and cutting deep, keeping only what is essential.

“A good idea means nothing if execution is too slow,” the CEO wrote. “That is the lesson we are taking forward.”

What Changes Immediately

The company is now primarily a development team. Non-essential staff, overhead and side projects have been removed. The CEO said he will personally join the development effort to accelerate the timeline.

To fund operations, the company will activate an automatic daily sale of $1,500 worth of ION tokens from its treasury of just over 1 billion ION. The CEO acknowledged this was not an easy decision but described it as the practical path to keeping the project alive over the coming months.

The new product will be built in a closed-source environment during development. The reason given is speed rather than secrecy, with the CEO stating that shipping matters more than optics at this stage.

From a short-term perspective, momentum has cooled slightly but remains constructive. Lower timeframe indicators suggest a reduction in buying pressure, which is typical after a sharp upward move. This cooling phase allows the market to stabilize and test whether newly established support levels can hold. Such behavior is often necessary before any continuation attempt, as it helps reset overbought conditions and absorb profit-taking.

On medium timeframes such as the 4-hour chart, Ethereum maintains a relatively healthy structure. Price remains above its recent base, and the formation of higher lows continues to support the bullish case. While momentum indicators are not aggressively trending upward, they are no longer signaling strong downside pressure either. This balance indicates that ETH is currently in a decision zone, where the next directional move will depend on how price reacts to key levels.

Crypto exchanges have become the primary venues where millions of people and businesses store and transfer digital money. According to industry data, the crypto market is currently seeing roughly $190–$192 billion in 24-hour trading volume. As exchanges expand into multi-asset venues, the security mechanism evolves beyond wallets into identity, permissions, pricing and settlement. Yet, despite growing pressure from regulators, their security is still failing.

In 2025, more than $3 billion in crypto assets were stolen, according to industry estimates. Moreover, several single incidents caused losses of over $1 billion each. Were these small or underfunded platforms? No.

The largest hacks happened at major global exchanges with ample capital and technology. So, a lack of resources allocated for protection wasn’t the issue — security, still treated as marketing, was.

Much of the industry keeps treating security as a performance rather than an operating discipline. Exchanges invest in what appears convincing on the surface: dashboards, reserve snapshots, protection funds, public statements. It looks reassuring, but it doesn't prove how risk is managed day to day.

That’s why, unless security is designed to be enforced, not shown off, even the biggest platforms will stay fragile. And when stress hits, that fragility spills over to users immediately.
