Strategy has purchased another 34,164 BTC for approximately $2.54 billion at an average price of $74,395 per bitcoin, bringing its total holdings to 815,061 BTC.

The latest acquisitions were funded by proceeds from the issuance and sale of the company’s Class A common stock, MSTR, and perpetual preferred stock, STRC.
Bitcoin treasury company Strategy acquired an additional 34,164 BTC for approximately $2.54 billion at an average price of $74,395 per bitcoin between April 13 and April 19, according to an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday — its largest weekly acquisition since November 2024.

Strategy now holds a total of 815,061 BTC — worth around $61.2 billion — bought at an average price of $75,527 per bitcoin for a total cost of around $61.6 billion, including fees and expenses, according to the company's co-founder and executive chairman, Michael Saylor.

Measured against bitcoin’s fixed supply, the holdings amount to over 3.8% of the eventual 21 million total, leaving the position about $400 million underwater at current prices.

The latest acquisitions were made using proceeds from at-the-market sales of its Class A common stock, MSTR, and perpetual Stretch preferred stock, STRC. Last week, Strategy sold 2,165,000 MSTR shares for approximately $366 million. As of April 19, $26.7 billion worth of MSTR shares remain available for issuance and sale under that program, the firm said. Strategy also sold 21,795,389 STRC shares for approximately $2.18 billion, with $19.46 billion worth of STRC shares remaining available for issuance and sale under that program.

For context, the Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently criticized Ripple’s holdings and $XRP’s tokenomics, arguing that the asset does not boast value appreciation for its holders.

Notably, Charles Hoskinson made his recent comments during an interview with Wendy O on The O Show, in which he questioned $XRP’s value model.

He said Ripple holds a large pre-mined supply of $XRP and sells some of it to fund its business, including acquisitions and other assets. To him, this allows the company to benefit while token holders do not benefit from any value appreciation.

Hoskinson also argued that $XRP holders do not have legal ownership of Ripple’s assets and do not benefit from features like staking or revenue-sharing. He suggested that this was similar to how Tether works, as a single company captures most of the value while users hold a tradable asset tied to a network.

He added that $XRP can still see short-term price jumps from news or hype, but he believes those moves are not linked to long-term demand or steady value appreciation.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins says he is on a mission to “advance, clarify and transform” or (ACT), when it comes to crypto.

During an interview with CNBC on Monday, Atkins was also pressed about prediction markets amid insider trading concerns. 
Nearly a year into the job, Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins says he is on a mission to "advance, clarify and transform" (ACT) crypto regulations, as the agency separates itself from its previous enforcement-heavy approach.  

On Monday, in an interview with CNBC Squawk Box's Andrew Ross Sorkin, Atkins said that the SEC is pivoting from a "regulation through enforcement" approach. 

"So rather than fending off new, innovative types of technologies, we're embracing them," he said. "So to make them so that will bring them from offshore, where people fled, to come back to the United States to really work on their products."

Since taking the helm, Atkins has launched "Project Crypto" to update the SEC's rules around digital assets and has led the agency in releasing a taxonomy with plans to debut an innovation exemption as well.
The shift marks a notable contrast with the tenure of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler, under whom the agency took a cautious approach to crypto and brought several cases against large crypto firms, saying that most cryptocurrencies were securities, while being criticized for his regulation-by-enforcement approach. Many of those cases have since been dropped.
