Ripple’s dollar stablecoin hits a wall in Japan, one of XRP’s friendliest markets, as megabanks earn most of the trust

Nomura’s latest survey suggests Japanese institutions trust stablecoins issued by major financial institutions most, a potential hurdle for RLUSD even in a market where XRP has long enjoyed unusual traction.

Japan has long been one of Ripple's most fertile markets. SBI's investment in Ripple dates to 2016, SBI Remit launched Japan's first XRP-enabled international remittance flow in 2021, and SBI VC Trade counts XRP among its most popular assets.

When Ripple and SBI announced in August 2025 that SBI VC Trade intended to distribute RLUSD in Japan, the move read as a natural extension of an already deep local partnership.

A recent survey of 518 investment professionals in Japan, conducted by Nomura and Laser Digital between December 2025 and January 2026 and released Apr. 16, found that 63% of respondents identified potential uses for stablecoins, spanning treasury management, cross-border payments, crypto investing, and tokenized securities.

Across JPY, USD, and EUR denominations, the stablecoins that drew the highest institutional trust were those issued by major financial institutions.

Japan may be Ripple's friendliest proving ground and precisely where the limits of crypto-branded stablecoins become visible.
Ripple's position in Japan goes beyond standard distribution agreements. SBI Ripple Asia, a joint venture formed from SBI's 2016 investment in Ripple, has operated as part of Ripple's regional infrastructure for nearly a decade.

SBI Remit began using Ripple Payments in 2017 and expanded XRP-based remittance corridors into the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia in September 2023.

Chinese-Canadian educator and Predictive History host Jiang Xueqin has stirred debate after arguing that Bitcoin may have been created by the CIA or a broader US “deep state,” rather than by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. The claim, made on the April 15 episode of the Jack Neel Podcast, quickly drew pushback from prominent Bitcoin commentators who said Jiang’s argument rests on a basic misunderstanding of how the network works.

Was Bitcoin A CIA Project?
Jiang, a Beijing-based commentator with 2.3 million YouTube subscribers, framed the theory around what he described as a game-theory process of elimination. He said the standard origin story “makes no sense,” asking why someone would spend years or even decades developing blockchain technology only to release it to the world for free and then disappear.

“So then you have to ask yourself three questions,” Jiang said. “First of all is who would have the technology and the expertise to create something like the blockchain. Second of all, you have to ask who would benefit from this blockchain creation. The third question you want to ask is why would they keep it secret?”

From there, Jiang argued that the likely candidates were US intelligence and defense agencies, citing the role government-linked institutions played in building foundational internet infrastructure. “Probably the same people who created the internet, probably the same people who created GPS, DARPA, NSA, CIA, probably these guys,” he said. In his telling, blockchain would serve two strategic purposes: surveillance and covert financing.

He pushed the argument further by suggesting that the network’s value depends on people believing it sits outside political control. “The answer is only if people believe that this was transparent, open and beyond authority, beyond political control, would it have value,” Jiang said. “So

$RAVE peaked at new records just below $19, though with short-term volatility. The token also caused a mix of long and short liquidations after a brief dip to the $10 range in the past day.

$RAVE may repeat the performance of $SIREN, which had several vertical rallies in the past months. $SIREN peaked at $2.36 in March and is back with a new rally as high as $1.73.

CFTC Chairman Michael Selig was questioned about Hyperliquid, prediction markets, and whether his agency has enough staff to regulate these new areas.

The top Democrat on the committee, Representative Angie Craig, expressed concern about the agency's ability to oversee prediction markets, given that it may lack enforcement staff.
Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig has been criticized by lawmakers over how he plans to regulate prediction markets, given the agency's assertive assertion of jurisdiction over them, and whether the CFTC has enough staff to do so.

 On Thursday, during a hearing of the House Agriculture Committee, which oversees the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), lawmakers questioned Selig about prediction markets, which have recently come under scrutiny after contracts were created allowing people to bet on events such as the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with one trade reportedly netting nearly half a million dollars.

"That's crazy," said Rep. Jim Costa, a California Democrat, during the hearing. "Do you think that's what was intended?"

Selig said the CFTC has broad legislation, adding that the agency received advance notice of the proposed rule change to figure out how to "address the problem of these new markets."

"I don't think that's a satisfactory answer," Costa said.  "I don't believe this is market innovation—it's profiting from tragedy, and I think we need to take a closer look at where this is all leading."

Banks Likely to Choose Ethereum for Finance, Says Raoul Pal


Top crypto executives are making a stronger call on Ethereum’s role in traditional finance. In their view, banks will prefer Ethereum when real money, real assets, and real settlement move on-chain.

Real Vision’s Raoul Pal says Wall Street is already moving toward blockchain infrastructure. The remaining question is not whether banks adopt blockchain, but which network they trust most. His bet is on Ethereum, the largest DeFi network globally.

Why Banks May Choose Ethereum

Pal said large financial institutions care most about uptime, resilience, scale, and proven history.

Banks do not usually bet core systems on untested technology. They prefer infrastructure with a long operating record, deep liquidity, large developer support, and clear security standards. This is where Ethereum stands out.

He said, “The entire banking system will go to $ETH,” adding that finance will remain multi-chain rather than single-chain. The argument is that decision-makers choose systems that reduce career and operational risk.

Wall Street Already Testing Blockchain Rails

Executives say the transformation has already begun. Banks are now testing tokenization, stablecoins, blockchain settlement, and custody systems in live pilots.

Meanwhile, firms are comparing networks on speed, reliability, compliance readiness, and ability to handle large transaction volumes.

Bitcoin Pressure Builds As Miners Dump 32K BTC In Just 3 Months

About 20% of the Bitcoin mining industry is operating at a loss right now. That single fact explains much of what has been unfolding across the sector in early 2026, as publicly traded miners race to sell off holdings just to keep the lights on.

Profits Squeezed To The Bone

Hashprice — the daily revenue a miner earns per unit of computing power — has been sliding since July 2025. It now sits at roughly $33 per petahash per second per day, according to data from Hashrate Index.

The breakeven point for many miners, particularly those running older machines, is around $35. That gap, small as it looks on paper, is pushing a large chunk of the industry into the red.

Major publicly traded miners — among them MARA, CleanSpark, Riot, Cango, Core Scientific, and Bitdeer — collectively offloaded more than 32,000 BTC during the first three months of 2026, according to TheEnergyMag.

That figure eclipses everything those same companies sold across all four quarters of 2025. It also surpasses the previous quarterly record of roughly 20,000 BTC, set during Q2 2022 when the collapse of the Terra-Luna ecosystem sent markets into a tailspin.

Three compounding forces drove miners to that record: a rising network hashrate that has made competition fiercer, reduced block rewards following the most recent halving, and broader economic headwinds that have kept Bitcoin prices under pressure.

The selling in Q1 2026 did not come out of nowhere. Data from CryptoQuant shows that total Bitcoin held by miners across the board has been falling since 2023.

At the close of that year, miners collectively held more than 1.86 million BTC. That number has since dropped to approximately 1.8 million.
