Sony Ventures has invested an additional $13 million in Startale Group through the Sony Innovation Fund as a follow-on. Summary Sony Ventures has committed an additional $13 million to Startale through the Sony Innovation Fund. With this, Startale’s total disclosed capital raised since its inception has grown to $20 million. Startale was founded as a spin-off from the Astar Foundation to serve as the primary architect and technical infrastructure provider for Soneium. Plunge in gold, silver, and copper sparks $120 million rout in blockchain metal clones

The crypto market's tight links with traditional markets laid bare Friday as a sharp slide in metal prices shook out millions in leveraged bets on blockchain versions of gold, silver, and copper.


Three-month copper futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) fell nearly 4% from Thursday’s peak above $14,500 a ton, settling closer to $13,000 amid technical disruptions at the LME, and a sharp shift in positioning by Chinese traders. The move marked a pause after a relentless run driven by Chinese demand, energy transition optimism and a weaker U.S. dollar.


Gold and silver prices fell by 4% and 5.9%, respectively.


That retrenchment showed up quickly in crypto markets. Tokenized metals products tied to copper, gold and silver saw an usually-high spike in losses as their spot prices cooled.


Across exchanges, derivatives and spot-style products linked to metals logged roughly $120 million in combined liquidations over the past 24 hours. Silver-linked contracts led the pack at $32 million in losses, followed by gold- and copper-linked futures. Prices for tokenized bullion products like XAU and XAUT dropped over 7%.


These liquidations reflect how crypto venues are increasingly being used as complementary rails for macro trades.


When metals were ripping higher earlier this week, traders leaned into crypto-native contracts for speed, leverage and round-the-clock access. As prices rolled over, those same markets became a release valve for risk.


Dollar strength hurts


The broader pullback in metals came as the U.S. dollar strengthened on speculation that the Trump administration may be preparing to nominate Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve chair.


A firmer dollar tends to pressure commodities priced in greenbacks, and Friday’s move hit metals across the board. Gold fell sharply from record highs, while silver, crude oil and iron ore also moved lower.

Santiment noted that 42 additional wallets holding more than 1 million XRP have “returned to the ledger” since Jan. 1.

The previous quarter saw a sharp reversal, with 784 millionaire wallets disappearing between October and December, underscoring how notable the recent rebound has been.At current prices, the threshold for joining the XRP millionaire club remains high.

With XRP trading around $1.87 at the time of publication, holdings of 1 million tokens are worth roughly $1.87 million, based on data from CoinMarketCap.Santiment described the renewed accumulation as “an encouraging sign for the long term,” particularly given the broader market’s cautious tone.

El Salvador stockpiles gold, Bitcoin amid market jitters

El Salvador’s Central Reserve Bank (BCR) said Thursday it bought 9,298 troy ounces of gold worth $50 million, its second gold purchase since 1990 and the first this year.

The acquisition follows El Salvador’s purchase of $50 million worth of gold in September 2025, bringing the national gold stash to 67,403 troy ounces valued at approximately $360 million.


The BCR stated the acquisition “consolidates the country’s long-term patrimony” and maintains “a prudent balance in the composition of the assets that make up the International Reserves.”


Gold has staged a powerful price surge in the past year. Since last September, the precious metal has jumped nearly 50%, per TradingView. The bank said its September purchase generated around $13 million in profits.


Alongside gold, El Salvador continues its daily Bitcoin accumulation. According to data from the National Bitcoin Office, the country has grown its holdings to 7,546 BTC, worth about $618 million.


El Salvador’s acquisitions come as central banks around the world are rapidly stockpiling and repatriating gold amid rising geopolitical tensions and dollar jitters, pushing gold prices to record highs.


According to data from the World Gold Council, central banks added a net 863 tonnes of gold in 2025, with purchases strengthening in Q4 as prices hit record highs.


Poland was the largest buyer for a second straight year, followed by Kazakhstan, Brazil, Turkey, and China, while selling activity remained limited.
