Saylor hinted at the purchase being significant in his usual Sunday X post with the company’s Bitcoin portfolio tracker, this time using the caption “Think ₿igger.”Following this acquisition, Strategy has witnessed its holdings cross the 780,000 BTC milestone. Also, its total investment is approaching the $60 billion mark, with its current value sitting at $59.02 billion.According to the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Strategy made the new purchase between April 6th and 12th and funded it using sales of its STRC at-the-market (ATM) stock offering. With 780,897 BTC in Strategy’s wallets, its holdings alone account for about 3.9% of the entire circulating supply of the cryptocurrency. This makes it by far the largest public holder of BTC. Bitcoin’s downturn appears to have already accounted for much of the uncertainty surrounding quantum computing, according to Bernstein analysts. The asset’s approximately 50% fall from its October 2025 peak of US$126,198 (AU$178,180) is seen as evidence that investors have priced in multiple emerging risks. Despite heightened concern, the firm argues that the threat remains manageable in the near term.

Interest in the issue has grown following findings from Google researchers on the capabilities of future quantum systems. Their analysis suggests that, in theory, a Bitcoin private key could be broken in about nine minutes using advanced quantum hardware. Such projections have prompted renewed scrutiny over how quickly Bitcoin must evolve its security model.

Bitcoin futures open interest on the CME has fallen to a 14-month low of approximately $7.2 billion in early April, extending a five-month decline as the basis trade that drove institutional demand unwinds and the Crypto Fear and Greed Index sits at 12, deep inside extreme fear territory for the 46th consecutive day.

As KuCoin’s daily market report noted, the basis trade was the central engine of institutional Bitcoin exposure after US spot ETFs launched in 2024. For much of 2024 and 2025, the strategy offered a relatively low-risk yield from the spread between futures and spot prices. As bitcoin fell from its high of $120,000 to below $70,000, that spread compressed sharply, making the trade uneconomical against the current risk-free rate. The result is a sustained institutional pullback from CME that shows up directly in both open interest and monthly volume figures.

The Fear and Greed Index reading of 12 reflects a market where retail sentiment has been suppressed for longer than at any comparable point since late 2022.

Bitcoin Futures: What the CME Decline Signals About Institutional Positioning

The CME open interest decline is not just a technical number. It represents a withdrawal of the leveraged institutional layer that was added when spot Bitcoin ETFs launched. That layer bought spot and shorted futures simultaneously, creating a stabilizing force in the market. As it unwinds, the market loses a source of structural demand at the spot level and a source of short pressure in futures, leaving price action more exposed to sentiment swings and geopolitical headlines. The five consecutive months of CME open interest decline also mean that any institutional re-entry will require the basis to widen again, which typically requires bitcoin price appreciation first.

Benjamin Cowen, a closely followed figure in the cryptocurrency market, has made striking statements about the future of Bitcoin (BTC).

Cowen categorizes market downturn expectations into two distinct categories: the Realistic View and the Doomer View.

Cowen stated that Bitcoin peaked at $126,000 in the last quarter of 2025 and entered a bear market that would last approximately a year. According to the analyst, a 70% drop from the peak (with deviations of about 5%) is entirely consistent with Bitcoin’s past cycles, and this is not a “doomsday scenario” but a historical reality.

They predict that a 65% drop from the peak would bring the price down to $42,000, while a 75% drop would bring it to the $30,000-$31,000 range.

The analyst states that the real disaster scenario is not just Bitcoin falling by 70%, but a deeper recession accompanied by macroeconomic data. Cowen argues that the US economy is heading towards a recession, highlighting the weakness in the labor market and the decline in hiring. He describes the possibility of Bitcoin falling even below the “realistic” 70% drop as a “worst-case scenario” if the stock market (S&P 500) experiences a serious collapse.

Cowen points to these three technical indicators to argue that Bitcoin has not yet bottomed out:

All major bottoms in the past have come after the intersection of profit and loss metrics; however, that hasn’t happened yet.
