BlackRock said advisors should consider Bitcoin, gold, and alternative strategies as portfolio diversifiers as stock and bond correlations remain elevated in the current market regime.

In a May 6 report titled How to diversify with bitcoin, gold and alternative investments, the asset manager said geopolitical and economic shocks have made traditional portfolio construction less reliable. BlackRock said the role of bonds as a stock market diversifier has weakened since 2020, with both volatility and stock bond correlations rising compared with the 2010s.

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley said the four-year crypto market cycle is definitively dead, pointing to last year’s down market as breaking the three-up-one-down pattern that defined the prior era.

Horsley also called Strategy’s Stretch preferred instrument a “juggernaut” in its early innings, predicting the structure will proliferate across the industry within 12 months and push bitcoin into fixed income markets.

Hunter Horsley, Bitwise Asset Management co-founder and CEO, has a message for crypto investors still waiting for the market to bounce back on schedule: stop waiting.

"The four-year cycle is dead," Horsley said at Consensus 2026 in Miami, where he sat for an interview at Solana Accelerate with The Block’s Gareth Jenkinson. "The four-year cycle stipulates that you have three years of up markets and then a year of down markets. Last year was down, so it's over," he said, echoing rhetoric shared by Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan.
Building on the end of crypto’s four-year cycle, the Bitwise exec further pointed to a new industry regime for the growing digital asset sector.

Horsley reached for a Winston Churchill line — one his Bitwise colleagues Teddy Vasara regularly references — to capture this inflection: "This is not the end, it's not the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning."

The patterns and intuitions of the prior era, he said, no longer apply in the new one.

Horsley suggested Morgan Stanley now features more prominently in crypto conversations than firms like Gemini, and that stablecoins, with an aggregate supply of over $300 billion, are attracting as much attention as altcoins.

According to Market Analyst Samson Mow, Strategy Selling Bitcoin Isn’t a Bad Thing—Here’s Why
Samson Mow made noteworthy statements regarding Strategy’s remarks that it could sell Bitcoin if necessary.

Mow argued that it was “not a bad thing” for a Bitcoin treasury company to sell $BTC when circumstances required it, saying the main goal should be to protect shareholders and provide flexibility to the company.

According to Mow, the “never sell Bitcoin” approach restricts companies’ room for maneuver. Describing public markets as a “battlefield,” Mow stated that a company sticking to only one strategy can create an advantage for short-positioning investors and arbitrageurs. He argued that Strategy’s ability to utilize different tools such as selling, hedging, or issuing new shares when necessary makes the company more resilient to market attacks.
Mow also recalled that his previously designed Bitcoin bond model included planned $BTC sales. He explained that after a five-year lock-in period, the issuer would sell $BTC, providing investors with a return on capital. Mow stated that Strategy’s STRC structure follows a similar logic, adding that both models reduce Bitcoin volatility while offering investors upside potential.

In his statements, Mow also drew attention to Michael Saylor’s previous posts, recalling that Saylor had said in April that “dividends could be met without issuing new MSTR shares as long as Bitcoin’s annual growth remains above approximately 2.05%.” According to Mow, this statement indicated that $BTC could be sold to fund dividend payments if necessary.
Mow stated that the saying “Don’t sell your Bitcoin” is a general guideline for individual investors, but it doesn’t mean “never sell until you die.
