The exploit that hit Kelp DAO on April 18 sent a clear signal through on-chain data: within hours, holders of the protocol’s liquid restaking token, rsETH, moved a net total of 563 tokens onto centralized exchanges. According to the Santiment update, the spike in exchange inflows reflected immediate uncertainty about the safety of assets tied to the Kelp ecosystem.

Though the amount was modest, the on-chain movement itself matters more than the sum. Liquid restaking tokens like rsETH represent deposits in EigenLayer, and any breach at a dependent protocol can shake confidence far beyond the immediate loss. Traders often preemptively move tokens to exchanges when a protocol’s integrity is questioned, even before a full post-mortem is published. The net inflow suggests that for some holders, de-risking took priority over waiting for clarification.

Cross-chain infrastructure platform Squid has secured $6 million in a strategic funding round, with participation from Ripple, signaling growing institutional interest in blockchain interoperability solutions. The round was led by North Island Ventures, with additional backing from Dialectic and Borderless.

Funding Details and Growth Trajectory
This latest injection brings Squid’s total funding to $13.5 million since its launch in 2023. The platform has already processed over $6 billion in transaction volume, supporting asset transfers across more than 100 blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The company plans to use the new capital to accelerate development of a consumer-facing product designed to simplify how users access and manage their crypto assets across different networks.

Cole, a 34-year-old crypto trader based in the U.S., told Decrypt that he’s seen an increasing number of peers within his Discord-based trading group complain and vent frustrations about how price action has gotten less fun to trade as time has progressed.

“It’s been shitty for a lot longer than the last few months,” he said. “Most of the people I know who are trading crypto still are dabbling heavily in stocks as well, or real-world assets, [...] and we’re having better success.”

The frustration isn’t isolated. As Wall Street giants increasingly dominate digital asset flows, the wild volatility that once defined the crypto market has leveled out. Amid muted market activity and upside-down portfolios, everyday retail traders are quietly pulling back—shifting focus to traditional assets and altering the industry’s foundational base of hobbyists.
