Stanford’s 2026 AI Index, released April 14, documents the near-disappearance of the US performance advantage in artificial intelligence, with the top American model leading the best Chinese model by just 2.7% on the Arena Leaderboard benchmarks Stanford tracks as of March 2026. The 423-page report from Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered AI puts the specific figures starkly: in 2023, performance gaps between leading US and Chinese models ranged from 17.5 to 31.6 percentage points on major benchmarks including MMLU, MATH, and HumanEval. By the end of 2024, those gaps had collapsed to 0.3, 1.6, and 3.7 percentage points respectively. #Vote to help HTX win & share Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin warns of the dangers of AI being controlled by a few big tech firms


Crypto’s next major inflection point is coming from artificial intelligence (AI).

That's according to Consensys CEO and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin. He told CoinDesk that autonomous or semi-autonomous agents can transact, coordinate and verify one another on decentralized networks, using crypto rails as a foundation for machine-driven activity.

Lubin, who will be speaking at Consensus Miami 2026 next month, said he is “sympathetic to the idea that blockchain is for machine intelligences,” but does not see humans being displaced. Instead, increasingly intelligent interfaces will abstract away complexity, allowing users to interact with crypto systems through intent rather than manual inputs. In that model, AI becomes the intermediary layer between people and protocols.

That vision comes with risks. If AI infrastructure remains concentrated among large technology firms, “we could be in trouble,” Lubin warned. He argued that decentralized systems and cryptography will be essential in ensuring accountability, enabling machines to “check on one another” in transparent, verifiable environments.

Within that broader shift, products like MetaMask — a Consensys product — are evolving to reflect the change. Lubin said the wallet is being rebuilt as “a new kind of neobank that you own and control,” part of a transition toward what he described as a “personal money operating system.” AI-powered agents could act on behalf of users, managing assets, executing transactions and navigating a growing decentralized economy. “You can walk around with your personal financial system in your pocket,” he said.

According to the blog post, the Ethereum Foundation teamed up with Secureum, The Red Guild, and Security Alliance (SEAL) in late 2024 to roll out said program. The initiative offered stipends to people carrying out public‐goods security work across the Ethereum ecosystem.

The chart framework, known as the MarketMaker Buy Model, argues that large institutional players move markets in predictable stages designed to transfer Bitcoin from emotional retail traders into stronger, long-term holders before pushing prices significantly higher.

According to the analyst, the first stage of the cycle, highlighted in the first green box on the chart, began with a “Distribution” phase that occurred between about $100,000 and $120,000 in mid-2024. During this period, Bitcoin traded in a choppy downward pattern. This type of movement indicated that large holders were selling their Bitcoin amid strong demand from retail traders buying aggressively near the market top.
