Tesla has achieved a key milestone in its self-developed AI chip. CEO Elon Musk officially announced on the X platform that the next-generation AI5 chip has completed tape-out, and the design blueprint has been officially handed over to the foundry for the manufacturing process. Mass production is expected to begin in 2027. This chip will replace AI4 and become the core computing platform for Tesla's Autopilot and humanoid robot projects.

Musk stated that AI5 will be jointly manufactured by Samsung Electronics and TSMC, with production facilities in the United States of both companies. However, he mistakenly tagged TSMC's account in his post, incorrectly pointing to a semiconductor company with a similar name, causing brief confusion on social media.


According to TradingKey, citing previous disclosures, the single-chip performance of AI5 is comparable to Nvidia's Hopper architecture, while the dual-chip configuration is close to Blackwell's level, with significantly lower cost and power consumption than Nvidia's similar products. Musk previously stated that AI5's key performance indicators will be approximately 40 times better than AI4, including a 9-fold increase in memory and an 8-fold increase in computing power.  Musk also revealed that the development of the next-generation AI6 chip and the Dojo 3 supercomputer processor are both progressing as planned, and Tesla's self-developed AI chip roadmap continues to move forward.
