Bitcoin traded sideways on Monday, April 20, as markets struggled to find direction after clashes between the U.S. Navy and Iranian forces over the weekend dashed hopes for an extension of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Market data show that after plunging to an intraday low of $73,753, bitcoin rallied around 3 a.m. and attempted to breach the $75,500 mark.The daily chart shows bitcoin briefly tumbled to under $74,700 by 5 a.m. before a fresh rally saw it rise to $75,600. The same pattern repeated midmorning as the top cryptocurrency dipped below $75,000 for the third time before a sharp rebound saw it tap the $75,600 threshold again. At the time of writing, bitcoin traded around $75,800, a 0.7% gain over a 24-hour period.

This stagnant price action eroded bitcoin’s market capitalization, which slipped just beneath the $1.51 trillion threshold—a sharp $50 billion retreat from Friday’s peak of $1.56 trillion. That previous high-water mark was fueled by Iran’s declaration that the Strait of Hormuz had reopened to commercial transit, a geopolitical pivot that sent oil prices sliding below $90 per barrel. This sudden cooling of energy costs acted as a primary catalyst for a broad-based relief rally, momentarily buoying both traditional equities and the digital asset space.

A newly surfaced internal presentation from International Finance Bank (IFB), highlighted by crypto researcher SMQKE, is reinforcing a growing narrative that XRP goes beyond theory, positioning it as a live payment rail within the Interledger Protocol (ILP) rather than just a conceptual banking framework. 
The document, prepared for IFB’s technical and risk teams, details how banks can integrate with Ripple’s ILP framework. It highlights the STREAM protocol as a core layer enabling real-time value and data transfer across disparate ledgers. 

Notably, XRP is explicitly identified as the settlement mechanism powering that exchange of value. 

This distinction is important because ILP is built to be asset-agnostic, routing value across different currencies and networks. 

Nevertheless, IFB’s implementation points to a more specific role for XRP within STREAM, functioning as the bridge asset that moves value between systems. In practice, it serves as the liquidity layer that enables fast, efficient settlement across otherwise disconnected networks.

Bitcoin spot ETFs led the charge, recording $996.38 million in net inflows and marking a third consecutive week of gains. The headline number, however, masked a volatile start. Monday opened with a sharp $291 million outflow, driven largely by heavy redemptions from Fidelity’s FBTC and Ark & 21Shares’ ARKB.

That weakness proved temporary. From Tuesday onward, flows turned decisively positive, culminating in a $663.91 million surge on Friday that pushed total net assets back above $100 billion. Blackrock’s IBIT dominated the week, attracting $906.1 million and acting as the primary engine of demand. Ark & 21Shares’ ARKB rebounded strongly to finish with $98.5 million in inflows, while Bitwise’s BITB added $54.1 million.Morgan Stanley’s MSBT emerged as a notable new force. The fund extended its inflow streak to eight consecutive days, accumulating $71.1 million for the week and $133 million since launch, with an average daily inflow of $16.6 million. Its competitive 14 basis point fee structure is already raising questions about how incumbents may respond.
