Cathie Wood’s Ark Investment Management has outlined a $28 trillion total crypto market cap projection in the firm’s Big Ideas 2026 research report.

The report comes as Bitcoin trades at around $81,313 with a $1.62 trillion market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap data.

10-times increase from the current total crypto market capitalization, which sits at over $2.7 trillion. The projection factors in Bitcoin’s expanding role as a treasury reserve asset, growing institutional adoption, and the maturation of on-chain financial infrastructure.

The report also projects that Bitcoin will play an integral role in getting the crypto market to such heights by 2030. It expects the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization to increase at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 63% over the next five years, increasing its lead as the dominant cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin’s current price is $81,313, reflecting a 1.2% increase over the past 24 hours and an increase of over 6.7% over the past week. Bitcoin’s all-time high of $126,198.07, reached on October 6, 2025, places the current price roughly 35.6% below peak levels.

Smart contract networks are also projected to see a bump in their market capitalization, with Ark Invest stating that they could collectively “increase at a 54% annual rate to ~$6 trillion by 2030, as they generate annualized revenue of ~$192 billion at an average take rate of 0.75%.”

The report also added that two to three Layer 1 smart contract platforms will likely take the larger chunk of the market.

Corporate Bitcoin accumulation lends weight to Ark Invest and Wood’s thesis. Michael Saylor’s Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) announced on May 5 on X that the firm now holds 3.9% of the entire Bitcoin network, generating 63,410 $BTC in gains year-to-date, worth approximately $5.1 billion.Strategy sits on

Lawsuits continue to plague the cryptocurrency world. Most recently, an anonymous cryptocurrency whale has filed a lawsuit against Coinbase.

According to The Block, an anonymous crypto whale has sued Coinbase for allegedly failing to return frozen funds related to a 2024 cryptocurrency hack.

The plaintiff, identified only as “DB,” filed a lawsuit on Monday against both Coinbase and the alleged thief, “John Doe.”

Although details of the case have not been released, it appears to be related to a $55 million $DAI phishing attack that occurred in August 2024.

Anonymous whale “DB” became a victim of a phishing scam on August 20, 2024, after logging into a fake page, which allowed the thief to gain access to their wallet. The attacker allegedly used “Inferno Drainer,” a platform designed to facilitate crypto theft, to drain all of the whale’s $DAI assets.

The investor claims to have contracted multiple firms to track the whereabouts of the cryptocurrency after the attack and found the stolen funds in a Coinbase account.

According to the lawsuit, Coinbase froze the assets after DB informed the exchange, but refused to return them to the plaintiff without a court order establishing ownership.

The petition stated, “While Coinbase acted reasonably in freezing the stolen cryptocurrency, its refusal to act and return the frozen funds to the plaintiff, despite the plaintiff providing sworn evidence of legal ownership, has become unreasonable.”

At this point, the anonymous whale “DB” is requesting a court order for Coinbase to return the stolen funds that belong to him. The petition states, “The plaintiff claims to be the legal owner of the stolen and frozen cryptocurrency and has the right to its immediate return.”

Bitcoin ETFs add nearly $1B as BTC surges past $80K in multi-day rally

Spot Bitcoin ($BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have recorded roughly $1 billion in inflows since the cryptocurrency reclaimed $80,000.

Bitcoin ETFs posted $467.4 million of inflows on Tuesday as $BTC surged past $81,000, extending Monday’s $532 million inflows, according to SoSoValue data, bringing the two-day total to more than $999 million.

The latest inflows follow April’s $1.97 billion in total net inflows, pointing to strong demand as Bitcoin's rebound continues.

Since May 1, the funds have attracted a total of $1.63 billion in inflows, bringing cumulative inflows to $59.7 billion and total assets under management to roughly $109 billion, the highest level so far this year.

The inflows came despite Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor signaling potential Bitcoin sales to meet corporate obligations in an apparent departure from his long-standing “never sell Bitcoin” messaging.

The resilience in Bitcoin ETF flows comes even after a roughly 50% drawdown in Bitcoin during the cycle, while ETFs saw outflows of about 8% of assets, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.

In a Roxom TV interview on Tuesday, the analyst pointed to the role of distribution networks, saying Wall Street wholesalers have effectively been unlocked by the products’ structure.

“Don’t underestimate the firepower of Wall Street wholesalers,” he said in reference to the flows.

The dynamic suggests that ETFs have helped stabilize investor access to Bitcoin during sharp price swings, keeping demand flowing through traditional financial channels even in volatile conditions.
