Ripple has struck a landmark deal with one of South Korea’s largest life insurers to tokenize government bonds on the blockchain. Fighting fraud in the digital age: why state-led identity is the future

The United States has lost an estimated $5 trillion to fraud and improper payments across government programs.

That number should stop us in our tracks.

Yet most policy responses still focus on detection, recovery and enforcement. They miss the underlying issue. Fraud at this scale is not a compliance failure — it is an infrastructure failure and at its center is identity. Addressing it requires a shift away from band-aid solutions toward a re-architecture of our digital identity framework.

There is a growing movement around the idea that identity — and control over access to personal data — belongs to the individual, not to banks, technology platforms or even the government. Even within the financial system, where data use is more tightly regulated, individuals often lack meaningful visibility or control. Data sharing operates through broad, one-time consent frameworks that enable ongoing access and reuse of financial data with limited transparency. More importantly, when consumers cannot actively direct how their data is shared and

The network is maintaining a very steady pace of around 144 blocks per day, so the countdown to the fifth halving at block 1,050,000 is now firmly set. This is currently expected to happen between February and May of 2028.As "digital gold," the basic operations of this event are essential to Bitcoin's value proposition since they automatically impose a limited supply cap of 21 million BTC. When the 2028 mark is reached, the block reward given to miners will fall from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC, therefore lowering daily output from around 450 BTC to 225 BTC. Historically, these halves in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 have been major catalysts for price increase as the abrupt drop in fresh supply frequently conflicts with growing retail and institutional demand.When the network reaches this 2028 threshold, around 93.75% of the entire Bitcoin supply will have been mined, therefore aggravating the asset's scarcity. This shift will put more emphasis on the long-term viability of the network's security as miners grow to depend more on transaction fees than on block subsidies for their income. The Bitcoin market could be facing another crucial event that would bolster its long-term integrity. This is highlighted in a recent evaluation of Japan’s Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA) reforms, which suggests a major impact on Bitcoin may come not from an increase in investor count, but from how its participant base evolves.

Regulatory Shift May Determine Who Bitcoin Market Participants Are
In a QuickTake post on CryptoQuant, the education group XWIN Research Japan explains why Japan’s FIEA reforms could push Bitcoin towards a more mature, stable market environment. The market experts begin by highlighting Japan’s significant presence in the crypto world, with about 13 million extant accounts holding assets worth ¥5 trillion ($34.4 billion).

However, Japan’s total digital asset portfolio is considered relatively small compared to even the Bitcoin market cap of $1.3-$1.4 trillion. Hence, the education group notes that the most important variable in this dynamic is not the number of participants, but the amount of money they bring into the market. In this case, the institute highlights that as Japan’s regulations improve, institutions, corporations, and other high-net-worth investors may increasingly enter, in turn increasing each account’s allocation.

Interestingly, a key part of this reform involves classifying cryptocurrencies more like traditional financial products. This would introduce stricter standards around transparency, disclosure, and intermediary responsibilities. While this might sound restrictive, it actually also lowers barriers for large institutions that require regulatory clarity before entering new markets.
