The more the market aligns with the environment, the more “sentiment” starts to emerge as a key signal.

Nothing illustrates this better than the last few days. Investor sentiment has been tightly tracking the daily swings in geopolitical headlines, particularly around the U.S.-Iran situation, with risk appetite shifting almost in real time alongside each development.

Bitcoin, in turn, has been caught right in the middle of this flow.

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index highlights this dynamic clearly. Twice since the Iran-U.S. conflict emerged, the index has hit resistance, aligning with BTC’s own rejection zone around $75k.

The first instance came on the 16th of March, when the index dropped 8 points in a week. A similar setup formed on the 7th of April, when the index hit 47, followed by a 5-point dip shortly after.

Perpetual futures activity emerged as the dominant force behind Worldcoin’s latest move.

Data showed $78.5 million flowed into perpetual contracts in a single day. This accounted for over 30% of total Open Interest [OI], which stood at $253.4 million.

Such concentration pointed to aggressive positioning from traders seeking directional exposure.


The Open Interest-weighted Funding Rates reinforced this bias. At 0.0153%, among the highest this year, it showed long traders paid a premium to hold positions.

This reflected strong bullish sentiment dominating derivatives markets.

For some of you who are in crypto for quite some time, you may recall the $9.6k gap from September 2020. Back then everyone was expecting this gap to get filled so they can finally buy Bitcoin again. Guess what? It remains unfilled to this day and many got back in at $20k+, fomoing like crazy. There is a gap that is still unfilled at $20k-$21k. Will it get filled? Well everything is possible. Yet until the market structure is broken, it's just wishful thinking. The current situation reminds me a lot of September 2020. 🫡
