siren [$SIREN] has been one of the crypto market’s standout performers, posting gains across multiple fronts. However, sentiment turned on the 17th of April after a clear bearish signal pushed prices lower and disrupted the asset’s upward trajectory.

Despite maintaining a 928% gain on a year-to-date basis, buying pressure has weakened in recent weeks.

Over the past month, $SIREN has declined by 20.7%, with price action now showing signs that downside momentum could intensify.

Bears take control of the price

The formation of a bearish engulfing candlestick marks a critical shift in market structure, suggesting that sellers have overtaken buyers.

This pattern forms when a red candlestick fully engulfs the previous green candle’s range, often signaling the start of a downward move. In $SIREN’s case, the setup strengthens the argument that bullish momentum has faded.

Price has now retreated into a key support zone between $0.76 and $0.64. This range previously underpinned $SIREN’s rally in March 2026, when the asset drew significant market attention.

It also served as a launch point for a rebound on the 16th of April, reinforcing its importance in the current structure.

If $SIREN fails to hold this level, the downside risk becomes more pronounced. A breakdown could expose the double-bottom region near $0.13—a known liquidity zone where price previously consolidated.

The case centers on an April 1 breach that resulted in approximately $280 million in losses. According to the complaint, attackers transferred roughly $230 million in USDC across blockchains over several hours. These transactions allegedly used Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to route funds from Solana to Ethereum without interruption.

At the macro level, the situation around the U.S.–Iran ceasefire remains unclear.

While U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz has reopened, triggering a risk-on move across crypto, the Iranian government disputes this, calling his statement false in an official response.

From a broader market perspective, this brings uncertainty back into focus.

The U.S. has yet to respond, but recent price action suggests sentiment is already shifting, especially after reports of $760 million in insider activity, adding fuel to another round of manipulation-driven volatility.

For context, market participants spotted investors selling a combined 7,990 lots of Brent crude futures, a roughly $760 million bet that oil prices would move lower.

More notably, this positioning came just 20 minutes before President Trump’s announcement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The result? As the chart shows, oil closed the day down 5.9%, slipping back to early March levels. Following the Strait of Hormuz headlines, this $760 million position therefore appears to have been highly profitable.

Notably, as these events unfolded, the crypto market also saw a spike in volatility, with some participants pointing to another “Friday manipulation” around the news flow.

In this context, the U.S.-Iran geopolitical narrative continues to add uncertainty, with markets reacting sharply to shifting headlines and positioning.

Naturally, the question becomes, does this volatility make the recent inflows into crypto temporary?

Iran's Friday announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened during the current ceasefire triggered one of the sharpest oil reversals of the year.

Brent crude fell 12.95% to $86.52, and WTI dropped 14.26% to $81.19, both their lowest levels since Mar. 11 and the largest single-day declines since Apr. 8. US stocks surged, bond yields dropped, the dollar weakened, and Bitcoin registered an intraday high of $78,336.

Traders stripped the war premium they had spent weeks layering into crude prices, and risk assets repriced accordingly.

Yesterday, the Strait was opened on Iranian terms. Commercial vessels required authorization from Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization and the IRGC and had to transit through Iran-designated safe lanes, but the US blockade on Iranian shipping remains fully in place until a broader diplomatic settlement.

That window has already narrowed. As of Apr. 18, Iran said it had closed the Strait again after the US left its blockade in place, pushing the market back into a countdown toward the Apr. 22 ceasefire deadline.

Only eight oil and gas tankers moved during the reopening, underscoring how far the route remains from anything resembling normal traffic.
