TSMC stock is hovering near its 52-week high as analysts grow more confident that the world’s most important contract chipmaker still has room to run.

Taiwan-listed shares recently traded around NT$2,445-NT$2,465, close to their 52-week high of NT$2,535.

The latest push comes after Citi Research raised its price target to NT$3,800 from NT$2,875 and reiterated a Buy rating, citing accelerating AI chip demand ahead of TSMC’s July 16 earnings report.

TSMC stock: Why Citi is turning even more bullish

Citi’s argument is no longer just that TSMC is riding the AI chip boom, but the boom is becoming broader, more durable and harder for rivals to match.

The brokerage said demand for TSMC’s advanced process technologies is spreading beyond AI graphics processors into custom AI chips, cloud TPUs, networking silicon, optical interconnects and CPUs.

That matters because it makes the AI cycle less dependent on one product line, one customer or one phase of data-centre spending.

Coinbase AI draws backlash after pushing World Cup result before kickoff

Coinbase (COIN) sent users a false “breaking news” alert saying Norway's soccer team beat Brazil 3-2 in a World Cup knockout match before the game had even started.

The alert said Erling Haaland scored twice in the match at MetLife Stadium. Coinbase’s own prediction-market page still listed the game as weather-delayed at the time.

Users posted screenshots of the notification on X on Sunday. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong replied to one saying he was looking into it with the team. According to one post, the alert was sent at 10:26 a.m. ET. The match didn't start until 4 p.m.

Max Branzburg, the company's head of consumer & business products, later clarified that the incorrect story was fixed and the firm “made some updates to avoid these types of inaccuracies in the future.”

“It’s awesome to see the power of AI-enabled 24/7 insights for trading, but obviously still need to tune it to address these types of issues,” Branzburg wrote on X.

The actual match did see Norway beat Brazil, and Haaland scored twice. The final score was 2-1.

The error landed as Coinbase pushes deeper into prediction markets. The company rolled out prediction markets to U.S. users in January through Kalshi, offering contracts tied to sports, elections, economic data and other real-world events.

Bitcoin’s latest rally pushed it to a two-week high above $63,000 over the weekend before cooling off.

According to market data from CoinGecko, Bitcoin briefly touched nearly $63,900 during the US holiday weekend before retreating toward $63,200 on Monday, holding on to most of its weekly gains after rising more than 5% over the past seven days.

The weekend advance was driven by a combination of weaker-than-expected US economic data, renewed demand through spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and a wave of short liquidations that accelerated the move higher.

Fresh optimism emerged after the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the economy added only 57,000 jobs in June, well below forecasts of 110,000.

The weaker labour report prompted traders to dial back expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening, easing pressure on Treasury yields while reducing the opportunity cost of holding assets such as Bitcoin.

Supporting that view, CME Group's FedWatch Tool showed markets assigning nearly an 80% probability that the Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged at its July meeting, while QCP Capital said softer inflation data would still be needed before markets could fully price in a more accommodative policy outlook.

The macro backdrop coincided with a heavily short-positioned derivatives market after Bitcoin spent much of June trading near the $58,000-$60,000 range.

Once the price reclaimed the psychologically important $62,000 level, short sellers were forced to close positions, triggering a rapid squeeze.

Market commentator Daan Crypto Trades described the move as a classic short squeeze, noting that prices climbed into a heavily shorted zone before forced covering intensified the rally.
