Ethereum is facing renewed market pressure after nearly $170 million worth of leveraged Ether long positions were liquidated during a sharp crypto market downturn. The sudden wave of liquidations has sparked intense debate among traders, with many asking whether ETH is simply experiencing another correction or facing a more serious long-term challenge.

The sell-off appears to be driven largely by leverage rather than a fundamental collapse of the Ethereum network. When prices fall rapidly, highly leveraged positions are automatically liquidated, creating additional selling pressure and accelerating market declines. Similar liquidation cascades have occurred multiple times throughout crypto history and often reflect excessive speculation rather than structural weakness.

Ethereum has struggled in recent months amid broader market uncertainty, ETF outflows, and declining investor sentiment. Previous market drops have pushed ETH to multi-month lows while triggering hundreds of millions of dollars in forced liquidations across futures markets. Despite these challenges, Ethereum continues to dominate the smart contract sector and remains the leading platform for decentralized finance, tokenization, and blockchain-based applications.

Bears argue that weakening momentum, lower network activity, and competition from alternative blockchains could keep pressure on ETH. Bulls, however, point to Ethereum’s massive developer ecosystem, institutional adoption, and continued role as the backbone of the decentralized economy. Ric Edelman predicts CLARITY Act may unlock crypto floodgatesRic Edelman has predicted that up to 95% of institutions without crypto exposure could enter the market if the CLARITY Act becomes law.

In a recent interview, Edelman said the disconnect between crypto prices and industry activity has become increasingly noticeable as large financial firms continue expanding their blockchain and tokenization efforts.

While cryptocurrency markets have struggled to maintain momentum amid regulatory uncertainty, Edelman said major Wall Street institutions, including BlackRock, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Franklin Templeton, State Street, Invesco, and Fidelity, continue building products and services tied to digital assets.

"Crypto prices are not reflecting what's happening in the world of crypto," Edelman said, pointing to rising institutional engagement even as investors remain cautious.

Institutional demand continues to build Drawing attention to recent industry surveys and conversations with market participants, Edelman said many institutions that currently have no crypto exposure are preparing to enter the sector.
