Elizabeth Warren has spent much of the past decade warning Americans about the risks posed by privately issued and decentralized digital assets.

Over the years, the Massachusetts Democrat has built a reputation as one of crypto industry’s most recognizable critics by persistently linking the emerging industry to money laundering, speculative excess, consumer losses, and sanctions evasion.

Throughout her crusade against Bitcoin, she frequently offered a distinct alternative in a central bank digital currency, or CBDC.

In a 2021 Senate appearance, she stated:

Digital currency from central banks has great promise. Legitimate digital public money could help drive out bogus digital private money. It could help improve financial inclusion, efficiency, and the safety of our financial system – if that digital public money is well-designed and efficiently executed.

However, in a striking legislative twist, Warren has now co-authored and advanced a sweeping bipartisan package that explicitly prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing that very digital alternative.

Late Monday, the US Senate passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act in an overwhelming 85-5 vote. The legislation is primarily designed to alleviate the nationwide housing crisis by boosting construction, streamlining permitting, and barring large private equity firms from buying up single-family homes.

Yet, buried within the hundreds of pages of real estate and zoning reforms is a provision that legally blocks the US central bank from launching a retail digital dollar through at least the end of 2030.

Even after that temporary freeze expires, the Federal Reserve would be barred from moving forward with any substantially similar digital asset without receiving explicit, affirmative authorization from Congress.

Dogecoin remains one of the most recognizable names in crypto. For many investors, it represents the project that transformed internet culture into a global financial phenomenon.

But the market is changing.

As Dogecoin struggles to reclaim momentum in June 2026, investor attention is increasingly shifting toward projects connected to artificial intelligence and ecosystem utility. One of the names frequently appearing in those discussions is MemeToro ($MT), a new AI memecoin platform that combines AI agents, memecoin creation, staking, and prediction markets.

The comparison raises an interesting question: is MemeToro becoming the kind of opportunity Dogecoin once represented?

Dogecoin Is Fighting to Hold Investor Attention

Dogecoin has spent much of June under pressure.

The token recently fell below its multi-week psychological support level at $0.07 and is currently trading in a lower range around $0.067 to $0.072. This decline follows broader weakness across the crypto market as risk appetite remains constrained.

Market sentiment has not helped.

The Fear & Greed Index remains deeply embedded in Extreme Fear territory, creating a challenging environment for speculative assets. At the same time, blockchain data suggests that large Dogecoin holders have slowed accumulation activity.

Without strong buying pressure, the token has struggled to regain upward momentum.

For many investors, the situation reflects a broader challenge facing legacy meme coins.

Crypto market selloff deepens as Warsh Fed and Iran uncertainty hit Bitcoin: Wintermute


Wintermute said crypto markets absorbed a risk reset before U.S. equities could fully respond, after the Federal Reserve held rates steady and U.S.-Iran talks lost momentum.

The market maker’s June 22 update said Bitcoin fell while stocks were still shielded by the Juneteenth market closure. It framed the move as a timing gap between always-open crypto trading and delayed equity price action.

Meanwhile, the Fed kept its target range at 3.50%-3.75%, but the message around policy changed. Wintermute said the statement became shorter, the easing bias disappeared, and officials moved closer to rate hikes than cuts.

The firm quoted the shift as one reason traders grew more cautious on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other liquid crypto assets. At the same time, lower oil prices did not remove the rate concern, because markets focused on wider inflation pressure and a Fed that now sounded less willing to guide investors toward future cuts.

Crypto prices absorb the weekend shock

Bitcoin traded near the low $60,000s after rising close to $67,000 earlier in the week. Wintermute said $BTC closed down 3.8%, while Ethereum lost 1.2% and altcoins were roughly flat. The firm said the failed signing of the Iran deal forced crypto to price in risk while equity markets were closed.

The update described the move as another leverage flush. Long positions faced far larger losses than shorts, showing that traders had leaned too heavily toward a rebound. Wintermute said Ethereum gave the clearest weak signal after losing the $2,000 area again and moving toward the mid-$1,700s.
