Alphabet shares fell as investors worried about Google’s AI talent losses



Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) is falling today because Wall Street is suddenly staring at three ugly things at once: Google is losing major AI people, rivals are getting louder in the AI race, and the company is spending eye-watering money to keep up.

The stock fell by approximately 7 percent by the closing bell on Monday, making it its biggest one-day decline in about a year.

On Tuesday, investors will be looking to see if Google can retain its top talent, defend its Gemini strategy, and generate value from large-scale investments in artificial intelligence before its margins look sloppy.

Google loses key AI figures as competition continues to poach talent

The first issue here is talent. Just last week, Noam Shazeer, Google’s vice president of engineering and one of the architects behind the Gemini AI model, announced he was moving on to join OpenAI. This is not a trivial move either, as Noam had only joined Google less than two years ago, which means that it could give investors cause for concern and make them wonder about the situation inside the company.

Namely, he had come back in August 2024 together with researcher Daniel De Freitas as part of the partnership between Google and Character.AI. Together, the two of them had founded Character.AI after quitting Google back in 2021. They were supposed to beef up DeepMind, Google’s major AI engine. Now one of the two key figures has left once more.

This move comes at a particularly bad time. Google had recently shown its new AI offerings at its annual I/O developer conference, revealing its latest creations, such as Gemini 3.5 Flash and the Gemini Spark AI agent. So instead of discussing their new offerings, investors will also be interested in who leaves them.

On one side, the security environment in decentralized finance continued to produce major incidents tied to bridges, rollup infrastructure, and MEV-related trading. On the other, regulators in the United States and the European Union advanced proposals and rules that could reshape how transactions are processed, especially for centralized exchanges and custodial services.

Separately, a wallet application update brought a set of product changes, including expanded token and transaction display features and additional third-party trading providers. While these updates do not directly address protocol-level vulnerabilities, they influence user workflows around custody, routing, and compliance controls.

DeFi exploits: multiple incidents across bridges, rollups, and MEV

Aztec Connect and other deprecated bridge components targeted

The week’s most notable theme was how attackers continued to find value in systems that were already in decline. According to the roundup, Aztec Connect was drained twice via distinct exploits. The first incident involved an alleged $2.1 million outflow, described as linked to a privacy-focused rollup bridge that had been deprecated in 2023. A separate incident was then described as pulling an additional $2.15 million from another private rollup bridge, reportedly deprecated in 2022.

From an industry perspective, these cases underline a recurring challenge in DeFi security: “deprecated” does not always mean “fully unreachable” for every integration, contract dependency, or edge-case flow. Even when a product is scheduled for retirement, interfaces that remain technically exploitable can continue to create attack surfaces.

Bitcoin Cash [$BCH], despite a strong run this year, could face another major decline that drives the asset toward $100, according to new on-chain insight.

Data across the spot and perpetual markets point to building selling pressure, with key indicators flashing the risk of a deeper move lower.
The Aloha on-chain signal, an indicator that has marked the tops and bottoms of asset prices on multiple occasions, shows that neither target has been met for $BCH so far.

At press time, data from Alphractal places $BCH in the middle of that range, between its top and bottom. Joao Wedson, senior analyst and founder of Alphractal, said he would not be surprised by a further $BCH drop despite the asset’s record.

“Even with this impressive track record, I would not be surprised if $BCH still falls further.”

If a drop materializes, the signal indicates the price would likely find a floor near $100—the level that typically marks its bottom—roughly 50% below where it trades now.

Wedson added that nothing guarantees the decline, noting that “no market ever gives certainty.” However, AMBCrypto reviewed the wider spot and derivatives data to gauge how that move could play out.

CryptoQuant data shows near-neutral sentiment across $BCH’s spot and perpetual markets, though two indicators stand out and point to a rising risk of a bearish move. The average whale order size shows large holders firmly in control, averaging 229.96 $BCH, about $44,688 at press time.

That control raises concern because the market’s funding rate has flipped to a negative 0.0028%, suggesting most perpetual-market capital sits in short positions.The spot cumulative volume delta tells a similar story, with selling volume outpacing buying. The spot CVD shows taker sellers dominating the market, a trend that has held for weeks alongside $BCH’s decline.
