How Did Telegram Turn Its Messaging App Into a Crypto Gateway?Telegram built a crypto infrastructure layer directly inside its messaging app by making The Open Network (TON) blockchain the exclusive engine for payments, mini apps, and digital asset transactions across its more than 1 billion monthly active users.

Telegram reached 1 billion monthly active users in March 2025, marking a 2,757% increase from 35 million users at launch in 2014. The result is the largest consumer-facing crypto distribution channel ever assembled inside a single app, where users can send money, buy digital goods, and interact with decentralized applications without downloading anything extra.

From a Banned Token to a Billion-User Blockchain
The story starts with a legal setback. The Open Network began life as the "Telegram Open Network," a Layer-1 blockchain unveiled by Telegram's founders in 2018 to extend the app beyond messaging. After the SEC challenged Telegram's 2018 private token sale, a US court blocked distribution of the original "Grams" token in 2020, and Telegram formally withdrew.

That separation proved temporary. Independent developers revived the codebase as "The Open Network," and a community-run TON Foundation brought the mainnet online while Telegram continued separately as a company.

The reunion happened in stages. In January 2025, the TON Foundation announced that TON became the exclusive blockchain infrastructure powering Telegram's Mini App ecosystem. Toncoin became the only cryptocurrency accepted for non-fiat payments for Telegram services, including Telegram Stars, Telegram Premium, Telegram Ads, and Telegram Gateway. Toncoin also became the only currency used to pay Mini App developers and channel owners for earned Stars and advertisement revenue.

On June 22, Solana unveiled the arrival of tokenized Micron Technology (MU) stock on the Solana blockchain via Sunrise, which will be issued by Backpack Securities.

The announcement comes at a time when Micron is planning to roll out its fiscal Q3 2026 financial report on June 24, 2026.

Recently, Micron has also announced a major partnership with Anthropic, which has boosted its stock price

On Monday, Solana, a leading blockchain network, announced the arrival of Micron Technology (MU) stock on the network via Sunrise, a Solana-based tokenization infrastructure.

The announcement comes amid the boom in the tokenized assets market, thanks to growing regulatory clarity around it. The tokenized version of Micron Technology (MU) shares will be issued by Backpack, which is a regulated U.S. brokerage.

For users, this is a major development as Micron Technology is a leading hardware provider for the AI sector.

According to the official announcement, Micron shares are now available in a tokenized form. The announcement comes 2 days ahead of the chipmaker’s fiscal third-quarter earnings report. The company is expected to unveil the report on June 24.

The tokenized MU stock is backed by a 1:1 ratio of actual Micron shares, which will be held in regulated custody. Users will be able to withdraw the MU token for the underlying shares through the Backpack exchange. They can also transfer them to traditional brokerage accounts, which will help them to own shares directly instead of just focusing on synthetic price tracking. Bitcoin slips toward $63,000 as a tech selloff drags risk assets lower

Bitcoin fell toward $63,000 on Tuesday, caught in a broad retreat from risk as investors pulled out of the technology stocks that have led markets all year.

The token traded around $63,640, down 0.9% over 24 hours and 3.3% on the week, per CoinDesk data, after touching about $65,076 on Monday and sliding through the session. The selling was marketwide. Ether fell 0.9% to $1,719 and is also down 3.3% on the week, XRP dropped 1.6% to $1.12 for a 9% weekly loss, solana lost 3.4% to $71 and dogecoin slid 6.6% over seven days.

Tron was the rare gainer, up 1.3% on the day and 4.6% on the week. Hyperliquid's HYPE fell 4.8% on the week.

The pressure came from outside crypto. A rotation out of this year's best-performing technology and chip shares sank global equities, with a gauge of Asian stocks falling more than 2% after a record close and South Korea's Kospi plunging more than 6% on fears that the rally in chipmakers had run too far.

S&P 500 futures fell 0.8% and Nasdaq 100 contracts dropped 1.3%, following a slide in megacap tech and rising bond yields that pulled US stocks lower on Monday. Brent crude edged below $78 a barrel and gold retreated.

That marks a shift in what is steering crypto. For weeks bitcoin moved on each twist of the Iran story. Now, with a peace roadmap in place and oil sliding, the dominant force is the same AI-driven tech trade that has carried equities to records, and crypto is falling as that trade wobbles.

The next test is memory chipmaker Micron's results on Wednesday, a read on whether AI spending can keep sustaining the rally that has lifted its shares more than 300% this year.

Crypto Groups Urge Congress to Pass Mining Tax Bill Unchanged

Top crypto lobbying groups ask Congress to advance a tax bill on mining and staking rewards without changes, citing the need for clarity.
A coalition of the largest crypto advocacy groups in the United States has asked the House Ways and Means Committee to advance a tax bill covering mining and staking rewards without amendments. The Blockchain Association, the Digital Chamber, and the Crypto Council for Innovation sent the request in a letter dated Sunday to Committee Chairman Jason Smith and top Democrat Richard Neal.

The bill in question, the Tax Clarity for Mining and Staking Act, was introduced by Ohio Republican Representative Mike Carey. It would let people who earn crypto through mining or staking choose when to pay tax on those assets, either at the time they receive them or at the time they sell them.

Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger said the tax code should not force people who help secure decentralized networks to sell their assets before they can reasonably use them. Digital Chamber CEO Cody Carbone called the legislation essential, saying it protects U.S. competitiveness and preserves a bipartisan compromise.

The letter argued that revisiting the agreement already reached on the bill would risk reviving the problems it was meant to solve. The three groups said the bill should move forward as introduced, without further changes from lawmakers.

The bill is one of several crypto tax measures the Ways and Means Committee discussed during a hearing on June 9. Tax policy has become the crypto industry's second-largest legislative priority in Washington, behind the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would create a comprehensive federal regulatory framework for digital assets.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is facing intensifying industry criticism over its financial management and organizational strategy, with prominent figures in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space questioning the foundation’s ability to sustain core development operations.

Industry leaders question EF’s financial stewardship

Marc Zeller, founder of the Aave governance group Aave Chan Initiative (ACI), publicly criticized the EF on X, arguing that the foundation could have been operated efficiently with basic budgeting principles. Zeller suggested that the EF should have used its substantial ETH reserves as collateral to generate yield, funding only high-impact projects rather than what he described as “52 clients that nobody uses or meetups in Lesotho.” He further noted that after the delayed transition to Proof-of-Stake (PoS), the EF could have staked its vast ETH holdings to generate returns sufficient to fund operations indefinitely. “If the EF hits a wall, it doesn’t deserve help. Ethereum will be fine though,” Zeller concluded, signaling a lack of confidence in the foundation’s leadership.

Keyring Network founder Alex McPharlane added that financial management and DeFi were treated as “taboo subjects” within the EF, where employees focused on financial concerns were viewed as not prioritizing the broader mission. “Now the funding shortage is a reality,” McPharlane stated. He estimated that the EF holds between $500 million and $900 million in liquid assets, which he argued should be more than sufficient to cover an annual budget of $20 million to $30 million. He characterized the inability to manage these resources effectively as “incompetent.”
