Stablecoin freezes are typically intended to target illicit assets, but innocent users can sometimes be impacted as well.

In an interview with Bitcoin.com News this week, Jan Philipp Fritsche, co-founder of Bermuda, a privacy-focused compliance solution for Ethereum, stated that stablecoin issuers and financial institutions frequently lack the tools needed to execute enforcement actions with precision.

Consequently, attempts to freeze assets linked to unlawful activity can occasionally produce unintended consequences, leaving legitimate users with restricted funds despite facing no allegations of wrongdoing.

“Often, legitimate funds are only frozen by accident,” he said, adding:

“ Stablecoin issuers and institutions sometimes need to freeze specific illicit funds in response to court orders; however, they often lack the capabilities to do so tactically and end up freezing legitimate funds as collateral damage.”

Why Innocent Users Can Look Suspicious
Legitimate funds may also be frozen because compliance systems can misread unusual but lawful activity. Fritsche indicated that some institutions depend on flawed heuristics to identify potentially illicit behavior, increasing the likelihood that innocent users are flagged incorrectly.

“Legitimate funds may be frozen because institutions interpret them as high-risk, or likely illicit,” he said. “Institutions sometimes used flawed heuristics to monitor user behavior and freeze high-risk transactions.”

Beginners and experienced traders are especially exposed to this risk. “The two groups most at risk of having funds frozen in this way are novice crypto traders, and seasoned trading veterans — heuristics-wise, they are often the outliers,” Fritsche detailed, elaborating:

According to Saylor, there is significant cohesion in the Bitcoin community, with most agreeing on nearly everything: Bitcoin's values and ethos, even its origin.

Saylor noted that Bitcoin holders agree on the larger part that matters. "Bitcoiners agree on the 99% that matters," Saylor wrote, but there is a nuance: the remaining 1% seems to be creating a divide.

According to the Strategy chairman, Bitcoin is still in the early stages of global adoption, with a significant portion of the world's capital yet to enter its network, leaving room for future growth.

MicroStrategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor Hints at Buying Bitcoin Again After Calling for Community Unity

On Sunday, MicroStrategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor hinted at buying Bitcoin (BTC) again. This came just hours after he called for unity among Bitcoin holders.

The timing is somewhat unusual. Recent filings by MicroStrategy show that the company sold a small amount of Bitcoin, rather than bought any, and it hasn't disclosed any new purchases in three weeks.

A chart shared by Saylor depicts the amount of Bitcoin MicroStrategy has held since 2020 and its average purchase price. Each orange dot represents a single purchase.

According to regulatory filings, as of press time, MicroStrategy holds 846,842 BTC. The average cost is $75,658, and the current holding price is about 10% below cost.

On Sunday, Bitcoin traded near $64,082, up 1.31% for the day. This brings the value of MicroStrategy's Bitcoin holdings to approximately $54.2 billion.

Saylor's move has sparked speculation about a new wave of Bitcoin purchases, similar to his previous acquisition strategy. The company (formerly MicroStrategy) has been acquiring Bitcoin since 2020 and remains the largest corporate shareholder, holding a significant lead.

Bitcoin ETFs shed a record $6.4B in 30 days amid crypto winter chill


US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded their largest 30-day net outflow since launching in January 2024 amid a crypto bear market.

According to data from Galaxy Research, US Bitcoin ETFs saw $6.35 billion in net outflows over a trailing 30 trading days. It also comes as they registered their sixth week of outflows last week, bringing their cumulative net flow to $53.4 billion, down from their $63 billion peak in October 2025.

Galaxy Research said the daily outflows are “still deepening day over day.”

The outflows could reflect waning sentiment from institutional investors for Bitcoin. However, BlackRock US head of equity ETFs Jay Jacobs told Cointelegraph on Thursday that there are many other reasons why outflows occur day to day.

“What I think is maybe sometimes misunderstood by the market is that if we see a day of outflows, there could be a million reasons why. It could be someone selling IBIT and buying BITA,” Jacobs said, referring to its iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF (BITA), which launched on Wednesday.

Bitcoin is trading at $64,167 at the time of writing, down 17.4% over the past month. The asset has been pressured by macroeconomic factors, including an increase in US inflation, along with the ongoing war between the US and Iran.

However, Jacobs said the volatility hasn’t impacted BlackRock’s view of Bitcoin as a global, decentralized, nonsovereign monetary alternative.

“Every asset class has volatility… we have over 450 exchange-traded funds within iShares,” said Jacobs, referring to the family of ETFs and index mutual funds managed and marketed by BlackRock.
