$XRP may face more downside despite posting modest gains over the past 24 hours.

A recent Elliott Wave breakdown suggests the $XRP corrective phase has not yet finished. According to CoinMarketCap data, $XRP is trading at $1.14, up 2.07% over the last day. However, the broader trend remains weak. $XRP is down 17% over the past month and has lost 37.67% since the start of the year.

Elliott Wave Signals Further Weakness

Notably, the Elliott Wave analysis suggests $XRP remains trapped in a corrective structure. Based on the examination, lower prices could come before a meaningful recovery begins.

The Elliott Wave count shows $XRP breaking below a descending trendline. The current move may represent the final stage of a five-wave correction. Downside targets are based on Fibonacci retracement levels.

The first major support level sits near the 50% Fibonacci retracement at $0.9859. A move to that level would represent a decline of about 13.5% from the current price.

If selling pressure continues, $XRP could fall toward the 61.8% retracement at $0.7367. That would amount to a drop of roughly 35.4%.

The analysis also outlined a worst-case scenario near the 78.6% retracement level at $0.4865. Reaching that target would mean a decline of nearly 57.3% from current levels.

Bryan Steil (R-Wis.), chairman of the Committee on House Administration, unveiled the measure recently, framing it as a basic ethics guardrail. “It is inappropriate for members of Congress to trade on the outcomes of elections or public policy,” Steil said. The bill targets a fast-growing corner of the market where users can wager real money on whether a specific government policy, government action or political outcome will happen.

Under the legislation, House members, their spouses and their dependent children would be prohibited from placing such bets. Crucially, the ban is narrow, covering wagers on political and policy events (including anything that came to a lawmaker’s attention through their congressional service) while still permitting bets on unrelated events such as sports.Violators stand to face a penalty of at least $2,000 or 10% of the trade’s value, whichever is higher, and would have to forfeit any net profits from the wager. Lawmakers would also be barred from using office funds or campaign money to pay those penalties, closing an obvious loophole.

The proposal arrives amidst notable political backing, with House Speaker Mike Johnson and President Donald Trump both supporting the measure. The move mirrors a step the Senate took earlier this year, when it adopted a rule barring senators and their staff from betting on prediction markets.

A dollar-pegged stablecoin called Main Street USD lost its peg on Saturday, collapsing roughly 71% in 24 hours after its verification provider, Accountable, abruptly terminated their service agreement. The token, which had traded near $1 for months, now changes hands around $0.29, cutting its market value to about $30.5 million. Accountable said Main Street could not meet its verification standards and severed the relationship effective immediately. With the data feed switched off, the protocol's public reserves dashboard no longer confirms any collateral backing the token. The episode underscores how quickly confidence evaporates when third-party proof-of-reserves attestations disappear from a yield-bearing algorithmic stablecoin design.

Accountable operates real-time proof-of-reserves checks that let firms verify holdings without exposing sensitive client data. The company says its network has verified more than $1 billion in client assets, including positions held by Galaxy and Amber Group, and it counts Pantera Capital among its backers. Main Street had marketed itself as Accountable-verified, running a public dashboard powered by the firm that tracked msUSD collateral in real time. In its statement, Accountable said it terminated the agreement because the protocol failed to meet its standards, adding that it would hold that line without exception. The withdrawal instantly stripped the token of its central trust signal.

But according to Token Terminal's Q1 2026 Ethereum Report, the divergence between the rising activity and falling revenue is the whole point.

Ethereum Usage Hits Record Despite Falling Fees and Valuation

The report, published on June 17, showed the numbers splitting cleanly along two lines. On the usage side, everything went up, including active monthly users, which rose 85.9% year-over-year; transactions, which increased 81.5% YoY to just over 200 million; and throughput, which hit 25.78 transactions per second, an 81.7% jump YoY.

However, on the dollar side, things weren't so glossy. Ecosystem total value locked averaged $316.2 billion, down 11% from Q4 2025 but still up nearly 23% year-over-year. Meanwhile, base layer transaction fees came in at $39.9 million, an almost 48% fall from the previous quarter and 81.9% below where they were a year ago.

Per Token Terminal, the fee compression had a direct cause, namely the Fusaka upgrade cycle's second Blob Parameters Only fork (BPO #2) in January, which raised Ethereum's data capacity and made blockspace cheaper. As a result, the transaction count went up 38% while total fees dropped by almost half in the same period.
