Matt Damon to Join Ripple Swell to Discuss RLUSD Impact

Hollywood actor and Water(.)org co-founder Matt Damon is set to take the stage at Ripple Swell in New York this October, bringing together celebrity philanthropy and blockchain payments infrastructure at one of crypto's leading annual events.

The event runs from October 27 to 29. Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz confirmed his attendance, describing it as the largest Swell event yet. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is also on the speaker roster, alongside Ripple President Monica Long.

How Water(.)org Uses Ripple Payments and RLUSD

The nonprofit was co-founded by actor Matt Damon and engineer Gary White, and uses small loans to help families pay for water and sanitation systems. At Swell, Damon will share how the organisation is using Ripple Payments and the RLUSD stablecoin to speed up cross-border payments for clean water projects.

Traditional cross-border transfers to microfinance partners in emerging markets pass through multiple correspondent banks, take days to settle, and incur a fee on each payment. Ripple routes RLUSD across blockchain rails in minutes, delivering a dollar-equivalent asset to recipient institutions without that overhead. That speed advantage matters most for smaller aid transactions, where transfer fees can eat a disproportionate share of each payment.

Ripple launched RLUSD as a stablecoin backed by US dollar deposits, short-term Treasuries, and cash equivalents. It operates on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum and supports payments, settlement, and other blockchain transactions.

The Get Blue Campaign and Water(.)org's Reach

Ripple has joined Water(.)org as the exclusive digital asset and payments partner for its Get Blue campaign, deploying its RLUSD stablecoin to accelerate funding for clean water access. Water(.)org launched the campaign at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, with a goal of reaching 200 million people with safe water by 2030.

Water(.)org has mobilised $7.7 billion and positively impacted 88 million lives across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Founding partners for Get Blue include Gap, Amazon, Starbucks, and Ecolab.

Ripple previously used RLUSD in a drought insurance pilot for pastoral communities in Kenya and committed $25 million to education groups in the US, supporting DonorsChoose and Teach For America. The Water(.)org partnership extends that humanitarian track record further into global development finance.
