Bybit has partnered with options market maker Orbit Markets to ensure institutional-grade liquidity.

Bybit, one of the world’s top cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volume, has launched options trading on Tether Gold (XAUT), a token that provides you ownership of real physical gold.

The XAUT options are now live and allow traders to hedge risk, speculate on gold price movements, trade volatility, and build custom strategies through Bybit’s Request for Quote (RFQ) system for over-the-counter (OTC) deals.

Bybit partnered with Orbit Markets, a leading options market maker active in both crypto and traditional finance to ensure deep liquidity from the start. Orbit’s team brings significant expertise, including former senior executives from precious metals trading desks, notably the ex-APAC Head of Currencies and Precious Metals at Deutsche Bank.

“As tokenization accelerates, we believe the distinction between crypto and TradFi will continue to narrow,” said Jimmy Yang, co-founder of Orbit Markets. “Gold options are a cornerstone of traditional derivatives markets, and we are excited to see growing interest in TradFi derivatives within crypto.”

The XAUT options are European-style contracts settled in dollar-pegged stablecoin $USDT, with each options contract corresponding to one XAUT token, which itself represents one troy ounce of physical gold

In crypto news today (June 16), Bitcoin has surged above $66,000, continuing the bullish price action that began over the past weekend amid an incoming peace deal between the US and Iran, slowing ETF outflows, and the Bank of Japan raising interest rates.

Liquidations have picked up, with over $536M over the past 24-hours and $375M of that figure coming from short positions. Liquidations flipping from mostly longs to shorts signal that the market is currently in an uptrend and bears are being punished.

Of the other major caps, ETH and HYPE are standouts, up +4% and +12%, respectively. With bullish price action across the market, trading volume has picked up considerably, reaching $110Bn over the past 24 hours, up from around $70-80Bn late last week.

With Bitcoin and the broader market continuing to surge, the Fear & Greed Index has moved to 23/100, up from 20/100 yesterday. While still in ‘Extreme Fear’, this steady increase in the rating highlights positive investor sentiment slowly returning.

Bitcoin OG Moves 2,373 BTC After 7 Years of SilenceThe sharp market rally seen in the past day has suddenly awakened a long-dormant Bitcoin whale that has remained inactive for about five to seven years.

According to recent on-chain data shared by a CryptoQuant analyst, Maartun, an unknown Bitcoin whale has moved over 2,373 $BTC that had remained untouched for between five and seven years.

Old Bitcoin whales resurface again
In addition to the data, the analyst further shared a chart from CryptoQuant's Spent Output Age Bands metric, which revealed a sharp spike in activity from older Bitcoin holdings.

While the data showed that Bitcoin tokens held for a longer period — between five and seven years — accounted for most of the transactions, one major movement that stood out was the 2,373 $BTC transfer.

While the move happened as Bitcoin reclaimed the $66,000 level, the transfer was worth about $156 million, sparking discussions across the crypto community.

The 2,373 $BTC move, alongside the sudden spike in older Bitcoin movements seen following the sharp market rally, marks one of the most notable awakenings of dormant Bitcoin supply in recent weeks.

Did the whale sell?
While the transaction has caught the attention of market watchers and analysts, it has stirred curiosity as to whether the old Bitcoin reawakening was an attempt to sell or buy, and whether it is bullish for the asset.

It is important to note that there are multiple reasons the whale could have moved the assets after such a long time, which could include efforts to restructure the portfolio or profit-taking; hence, it is unclear whether it is bullish for Bitcoin or not.

The Token Is The Asset'—Kula's Fix For RWA Tokenization's $31B Gap


"You own the token and the token is the asset, you own the asset. It's different. It's what we call title tokenization," Chris Turner, co-founder of impact investment firm Kula, said on the On The Margin podcast.

Most tokenized real-world assets do not work that way. "But you don't own the asset. The asset owner owns the asset. You just got a referential or a contractual claim," Turner said. The tokenized RWA market hit about $31 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2026, and Kula's wager is that the gap between holding title and holding a claim is the thing the market skipped over. Kula VASP Limited is licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius, and is running a proof of concept with asset manager Lionhart Capital to issue regulated title on chain.

From failed aid budgets to a blockchain epiphany

Turner spent more than 20 years in international development before crypto, and he is blunt about why he left. "Earlier in my career, I kept coming across projects and business ventures or infrastructure development projects or actual full-scale aid projects that would promise the world and would deliver very little," he said. One review broke him. On about $2.2 billion of aid into a single country, "we did the assessment and we found out that only 300,000 US dollars had actually reached grassroots interventions," Turner said.

The numbers got massaged on the way up the chain, too. "By the time it's at township level, it's 75. By the time it's reported up to the regional capital, it's 150. And by the time it reaches the national capital, it's 300," he said of a project he watched serve 50 farmers. Then in 2017 he heard a shipping firm describe tracking its cargo on a blockchain. "So I listened to that and thought, okay, that's the solution to the problem that I have," Turner
