In an announcement on April 16, the Tron-based lending protocol said the burned tokens were sent to a “black hole” address and funded by its net income for the first quarter of 2026 plus past accumulated profits. With this latest event, the total number of JST destroyed has climbed to 1,356,228,332, representing 13.70% of the token’s overall supply and extending a rapid deflationary run that began in late 2025. Earlier rounds saw JustLend wipe out roughly 1.08 billion JST across two buybacks worth nearly $40 million, equal to about 10.96% of supply in under three months. Revenue-funded burns cement JST’s deflation narrative JustLend reiterated that its buyback program is explicitly tied to protocol profitability, describing the burns as “value empowerment” driven by real cash flow from lending spreads and other revenue sources on Tron. Blockchain Goes TradFi?
The Ministry of Finance and Economy announced on an official press release that the pilot project for the execution of national treasury funds using blockchain‐based digital currency has been approved.

This new official venture marks the second time in which South Korea’s government uses digital currency and deposit tokens for the execution of national treasury funds, following another pilot project for building electric‐vehicle charging facilities and paying national subsidies together with the Ministry of Environment.

Deposit tokens are digital claims on commercial bank deposits, issued on permissioned blockchain rails, spendable by citizens and companies at participating merchants and service providers.

In simpler words, deposit tokens are digital versions of the money already kept in a normal bank account. The bank “wraps” those deposits into tokens on a private (permissioned) blockchain, and you can then spend those tokens at approved shops or service providers, just like using a card or mobile wallet.

In contrast with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), that are digital versions of a country’s official money, created and managed directly by its central bank, deposit tokens have programmable settlement, transparent tracking of public money, and real‐time reporting for the state.

Pilot Details
The press release states that under the current National Treasury Funds Management Act, business promotion costs and related operating expenses are required to be paid with government purchase cards, effectively blocking the use of deposit tokens. Thanks to the new regulatory sandbox, those same payments can now be made with deposit tokens, creating a real‐world testbed for a new government

The Ethereum Foundation said it funded a six-month project that exposed 100 North Korean operatives who had infiltrated Web3 companies under fake identities.
The foundation on Thursday shared a recap of its ETH Rangers program, which was launched in late 2024 to provide "stipends for individuals doing public goods security work" within the ecosystem.
One of the recipients used the capital to build the Ketman Project to focus on investigating “fake developers” embedded within crypto, particularly operatives from the People's Republic of Korea.
During the six-month stipend period, the Ketman Project identified "100 different DPRK IT workers operating within Web3 organizations" and reached out to about 53 projects to alert them about having potentially employed active DPRK operatives.
"This work directly addresses one of the most pressing operational security threats facing the Ethereum ecosystem today," the Ethereum Foundation said.
North Korean operatives have been plaguing the crypto sector, leading to billions worth of crypto stolen over the years. One of the highest-profile hacking groups from North Korea is known as the Lazarus Group.
