Crypto's massive exploit may force big banks to rethink their blockchain plans, Jefferies warns
A major decentralized finance (DeFi) hack could prompt Wall Street firms to reassess the pace of their blockchain and tokenization efforts, a Jefferies analyst wrote in a report.

The note follows a $293 million exploit of Kelp DAO on April 18, in which attackers minted unbacked tokens and used them as collateral to borrow other assets across lending platforms.

The incident, potentially linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group, has already rippled through crypto markets, triggering sharp token sell-offs and a liquidity crunch in key protocols.
Jefferies analyst Andrew Moss said the fallout may extend beyond crypto-native firms to traditional financial institutions, which have been accelerating efforts to tokenize assets such as funds, bonds and deposits.

Arbitrum freezes $71 million worth of ETH stolen in Kelp DAO exploit

The Arbitrum Security Council has frozen 30,766 ETH held in an address on Arbitrum One linked to the Kelp DAO exploit.

Arbitrum said the frozen funds will only be moved by further action through Arbitrum governance. The Arbitrum Security Council has frozen 30,766 ETH, worth about $71.1 million, held in an address on Arbitrum One linked to the $292 million Kelp DAO exploit over the weekend.

In a Tuesday post on X, Arbitrum said the security council has moved the funds to an intermediary frozen wallet, adding that the action did not affect other chain state and Arbitrum users.

The funds will remain frozen unless further action is approved through Arbitrum governance, the team said.

"The Security Council acted with input from law enforcement as to the exploiter's identity, and, at all times, weighed its commitment to the security and integrity of the Arbitrum community without impacting any Arbitrum users or applications," said the statement. Bitcoin trades above a make-or-break level ahead of Warsh hearing



Bitcoin is trading with a positive bias above the $75,000 level, which CoinDesk recently highlighted as a critical threshold for bulls to maintain control.

Still, some observers are urging caution, noting that prices need to hold above that level through Wednesday, when the U.S.–Iran ceasefire is set to end.

"The ceasefire is set to expire Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market has to price two paths, extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress. That is why even with $BTC strong, the tape can still gap fast. It is headline risk with a timer," analysts at Marex said in an email to CoinDesk.

An escalation could take oil prices well above the March high of $119, potentially sending Asian and global equity markets into a tailspin. The question remains whether bitcoin, which held relatively steady around $70,000 during the March conflict, will remain resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market.

As of the time of writing, no delegation from Iran had departed for the talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a major escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal.

Also on analysts’ radar is Kevin Warsh’s nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh has a reputation as an "inflation hawk" who opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash.

So what he says during the session could move markets. "His remarks could act as a near-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing," digital assets trading firm QCP Capital said in a note.

Speaking of the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether ($ETH), solana (SOL), and $XRP ($XRP) have risen by less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin.

Financial filings indicate that United States Representative Daniel Meuser of Pennsylvania has accelerated his recent sales of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock.

The latest transaction shows that Meuser reported selling Nvidia shares in a trade executed on March 25, 2026, with the value estimated between $1,001 and $15,000.

The disclosure, filed on April 14, 2026, indicates the sale was partial, and notably, no stock purchases were reported during the same period.

Additional records show that this was not an isolated transaction involving the American semiconductor giant.

In this context, the lawmaker carried out multiple Nvidia stock sales earlier in the year, including trades executed on February 25, 2026, January 30, 2026, and January 14, 2026, each also valued in the $1,001 to $15,000 range.

The Congress trades were disclosed across multiple filings, including April 3 and February 17, 2026, pointing to a steady pattern of divestment over several weeks.

The repeated sales of Nvidia are notable given the firm’s central role in the fast-growing artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors, which continue to attract strong investor interest.

The trades also come as Nvidia recently faced mounting bearish pressure, prompting a more cautious stance toward technology equities, even as the stock remained around $201 at press time, up roughly 12% year-to-date.

While retail investors were panic-selling through one of the worst sentiment quarters in years, Bitcoin’s wealthiest holders were doing something very different. They were buying more.

Data from Xapo Bank’s Q1 2026 Digital Wealth Report shows average Bitcoin holdings per member rose 18.5% quarter-over-quarter. Of those members, typically high-net-worth individuals, 78.4% actively added to their positions.

This was not reactive dip buying. It was deliberate.

Trading volume among Xapo members actually fell 20% quarter-on-quarter. But average buy orders grew 26.1% in size and sell orders 42.5%. Fewer moves, each one larger and more calculated.

To understand why that matters, you need to understand what Q1 2026 actually looked like and why retail was doing the absolute opposite.
