Will Solana drop below $80 as downward pressure builds?



Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Ripple ($XRP) are all trading in the red as the broader crypto market feels the pressure of the US-Iran conflict.

Bitcoin’s price has slipped below $71,000, while Ether and $XRP are trading below $2,200 and $1.35, respectively.

Solana’s $SOL is also underperforming and could face further selling pressure in the near term. The coin is trading at $81 on Monday, after a 4% decline on Sunday, which aligned with the broader cryptocurrency market correction.

At the moment, Solana remains on a downside trajectory after reversing from an overhead trendline, while institutional demand whipsaws and retail interest declines. Momentum indicators also suggest that sellers are in control, with a possible correction to the $77 support level on the cards.

ETF outflows add selling pressure to Solana

Solana has been underperforming since Tuesday after failing to overcome the $88 swing high level. It lost 4% of its value on Sunday and has continued its poor performance into Monday.

Similar to other leading cryptocurrencies, $SOL is facing mixed-to-slightly bearish reactions in the institutional and derivatives markets amid the US-Iran blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Data obtained from CoinGlass revealed that the Solana Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) recorded [MONEY value="11450000" currency="usd" notation="long" replace="false"] in inflows on Friday, limiting the weekly outflow to [MONEY value="5620000" currency="usd" notation="long" replace="false"]. Friday’s inflow suggests that institutions remain interested in Solana but also marks the third consecutive weekly outflow.

The $73,000 ceiling that rejected bitcoin three times in eight days just broke.

Bitcoin surged 4.8% to $74,484 late on Monday, its highest price since before the Iran war began in late February, after President Trump signaled a willingness to resume talks with Tehran even as the U.S. blockaded the Strait of Hormuz.

The move triggered $534 million in crypto liquidations across 180,000 traders, with $430 million coming from shorts, the second major squeeze in less than a week.

Ether led the majors with a 7.7% jump to $2,366, now up 12.4% on the week and outperforming bitcoin by a wide margin. Solana's SOL climbed 4.6% to $85.80, up 7.6% weekly. BNB gained 3.3% to $615.80. XRP rose 2.9% to $1.36. Dogecoin added 2.7% to $0.094. Every asset in the top 10 is green on both the daily and weekly chart.

The largest single liquidation was a $12.4 million BTC-USDT short on Aster. Bitcoin accounted for $229 million in total liquidations and ether followed at $136 million. Smaller token RAVE added $43 million in liquidations as prices surged 66%, and Solana contributed $12 million.

The S&P 500 has now erased all losses triggered by the Iran conflict, with the MSCI All Country World Index heading for its eighth consecutive day of gains, the longest winning streak since September.

Brent crude fell 1.3% to $98 as markets priced in the possibility that fresh talks could happen before the April 7 ceasefire expires next week. Treasury yields fell one basis point to 4.28% as cheaper oil eased inflation concerns.

The 12-hour liquidation window was where the damage concentrated, with $379 million wiped out in that period, of which $327 million were from shorts. The ratio of short to long liquidations at roughly 4-to-1 over 12 hours reflects just how heavily the market was still positioned for failure at $73,000, even after last week's ceasefire bounce had already punished that trade once.

Crypto analyst Max, writing on X, argues that the return of bullish sentiment may actually indicate that Bitcoin has not yet reached a true market bottom.
According to his analysis, history shows that when optimism begins to slowly return after deep corrections, markets often still have further downside ahead. In his view, premature confidence has repeatedly appeared during mid-cycle recoveries rather than at final bottoms.
Key Bottom Signals Still Missing
Max highlights that several important technical conditions associated with past Bitcoin cycle lows have not yet appeared, including:
Full capitulation events
Multiple retests and breakdowns of recent lows
A confirmed structural trend reversal on the weekly timeframe
Without these signals, he argues, it is difficult to confirm that a durable bottom has been established.
Historical Cycle Patterns Suggest Longer Correction
Looking at previous Bitcoin cycles, bear market phases have consistently lasted around one year following major cycle peaks:
2013 peak → ~427 days of decline
2018 peak → ~365 days of decline
2021 peak → ~365 days of decline
While each cycle has shown diminishing drawdowns over time, the duration of corrections has remained relatively consistent.
Based on this historical structure, Max suggests that the current cycle—starting from the October 2025 peak—may still be following a similar timeline.
