Ad Disclosure Charles Schwab has shared more specifics about its upcoming “Schwab Crypto” platform, giving eligible customers a path to buy and sell bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) directly. Schwab Crypto’s RoadmapAt launch, Schwab Crypto will offer direct trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum, which the firm says together account for roughly three-quarters of total crypto market capitalization.  However, Schwab indicated that it intends to add additional cryptocurrencies to the platform in the future. The firm also plans to introduce transfer capabilities for deposits and withdrawals, so clients with digital asset holdings elsewhere can bring their investments into Schwab alongside their other accounts.Related Reading: CLARITY Act Progress: Key Markup Slipping Toward The Final Week Of April Or Mid-MaySchwab also plans to lean heavily on its research and investor education approach. That includes digital assets learning materials powered by the Schwab Center for Financial Research, along with crypto-focused content delivered through Schwab Coaching. The goal, according to the company, is to help investors better understand how digital assets work and how they may fit into a broader investing strategy rather than treating crypto as a separate world. Cost is also positioned as a selling point. Schwab says pricing will be among the lowest in the industry, charging 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade. Paxos For Sub-Custody And Trade Execution Joe Vietri, Head of Digital Assets at Charles Schwab, said the firm aims to give investors access to well-known cryptocurrencies through an “all-in-one investing and banking experience,” supported by education and the operational backing of Schwab’s ecosystem.  Vietri framed the approach as catering to two groups at once: people who are new to crypto and want to use a trusted institution, and investors who already own digital assets and

A series of major developments has unsettled the crypto sector today, including legal action against Circle Internet Group, a fresh exchange hack, record Bitcoin sales by miners, and the launch of spot crypto trading services by leading brokerage Charles Schwab.

To begin with, Circle Internet Group faces a class action arising from a major breach involving Drift Protocol. The lawsuit, filed in a Massachusetts federal court by investor Joshua McCollum, represents more than 100 affected participants.
The case centers on an April 1 breach that resulted in approximately $280 million in losses. According to the complaint, attackers transferred roughly $230 million in USDC across blockchains over several hours. These transactions allegedly used Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to route funds from Solana to Ethereum without interruption.

Specifically, the filing argues that Circle failed to take timely action to halt the transfers. It accuses the company of negligence and facilitating wrongful conversion. The case is being pursued by Mira Gibb, with damages to be determined at trial.

In the aftermath, Drift Protocol is expected to overhaul its settlement system, replacing USDC with USD upon resumption of operations.

At the same time, security concerns have resurfaced with a major breach at Grinex. The exchange has halted trading after a cyberattack resulted in losses exceeding 1 billion rubles (about $13.7 million).

Grinex, registered in Kyrgyzstan but closely tied to Russia’s crypto ecosystem, reported that 54 wallets were compromised. The company described the attack as highly sophisticated, raising the possibility of involvement by well-resourced or state-linked actors.

The North Korean secret crypto-agents don’t rest, so the Ethereum Foundation decided it was time they put on the detective’s hat to track them before they too fell victims to them, just as Drift Protocol was at the beginning of the month. And so, yesterday afternoon the Foundation announced on an official blog post the starking results yielded by the ETH Rangers Program (and yes, everything related to North Korean hackers inevitably sounds straight out of an RPG or action movie).

The ETH Rangers Program has wrapped up and the results speak for themselves: $5.8M+ recovered, 785+ vulnerabilities reported, 100+ DPRK operatives identified, and so much more.

According to the blog post, the Ethereum Foundation teamed up with Secureum, The Red Guild, and Security Alliance (SEAL) in late 2024 to roll out said program. The initiative offered stipends to people carrying out public‐goods security work across the Ethereum ecosystem.

Zondacrypto under fire as Poland's prime minister links exchange to legislative interference

Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto's problems just keep mounting.

Already under fire following reports of frozen or delayed customer withdrawals, the company on Friday drew the ire of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who told parliament the company had sponsored some politicians who opposed crypto market regulation.

Blocking the legislation by some politicians showed they were toeing Zondacrypto's line, Tusk said before a vote to overturn President Karol Nawrocki's veto of the law, according to a report by AP. The exchange has links to Russia and had previously provided the lawmakers with financial support, he said.

Tusk's comments came a day after Zondacrypto CEO Przemysław Kral turned to X to defuse allegations the company was helping itself to investors' funds to bulk up its declining reserves.

In a statement and video published on the platform, Kral said the exchange had sufficient reserves, and owns a bitcoin wallet holding about 4,500 BTC, about $330 million. There is a problem, though: It can't access the funds because the previous owner didn't hand over the private key and has now disappeared.

PayPal’s stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD), has reached a market capitalization of $4.11 billion, marking one of the fastest growth phases in the stablecoin space. The token has expanded rapidly since mid-2025, rising from around $500 million to over $4 billion. 

In contrast, Ripple’s RLUSD, which once touched nearly $1.6 billion, has recently pulled back to around $1.42 billion.

PYUSD Growth Driven by Real Usage, Not Hype
PYUSD’s rise is not just about market cycles, it is driven by actual usage.

PayPal has expanded the stablecoin across 13 blockchain networks in 2025, including Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and Stellar. This multi-chain approach allows users to move funds easily across networks, making PYUSD more accessible for both payments and DeFi.

A key push came through a LayerZero integration, which allowed PYUSD to move freely across nine additional chains. 

On Solana alone, PYUSD became the second-largest stablecoin on the Kamino lending platform, with over $500 million in deposits. This shows strong demand beyond simple trading.

Even recently, Coinpedia news reported that YouTube announced that eligible U.S. creators can get paid directly in PayPal’s PYUSD stablecoin.
