Oxford researchers found Al chatbots trained for warmth make significantly more factual errors and validate false beliefs more often, according to a study published in Nature by the Oxford Internet Institute. The research analyzed more than 400,000 responses from five Al models, including Llama, Mistral, Qwen, and GPT-40, each retrained to sound friendlier using methods similar to those deployed by major platforms.
Chatbots trained to sound warmer made between 10% and 30% more mistakes on topics including medical advice and conspiracy corrections. They were also about 40% more likely to agree with users' false beliefs, particularly when users expressed vulnerability. "When we train Al chatbots to prioritise warmth, they might make mistakes they otherwise wouldn't," lead author Lujain Ibrahim said in a statement. "Making a chatbot sound friendlier might seem like a cosmetic change, but getting warmth and accuracy right will take deliberate effort." Hoskinson framed the problem bluntly: crypto still asks users to manage seed phrases, navigate exchanges, wait for withdrawals, choose between networks, avoid fake apps and understand DeFi risk before they can do anything useful. That, he said, remains the core barrier to bringing “the next few billion people” into the industry.

“The number one problem that people say again and again and again when they think about cryptocurrencies, whether you’re an experienced user and you’ve been in the industry a long time or you’re a completely new person, you’ve heard about the industry is, I’m gonna fuck it up. The safety side,” Hoskinson said. “That is the user experience in 2026. That make any sense to you? Is this like a product you wanna use?”

Cardano Founder Targets Crypto’s UX Problem

His answer was not to abandon crypto’s original principles, but to make them usable. Hoskinson contrasted crypto’s current experience with Web2 products such as Google Wallet, which he said has around 1.5 billion users and trains consumers to expect one-click setup, recovery and seamless mobile access. Crypto, in his view, cannot keep insisting it is “different” if the product experience remains too punishing for ordinary users.

Crypto activists attempting to compel the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to include Bitcoin in its reserves failed to gather the necessary signatures for a referendum, reports Reuters.

Under Swiss law, 100,000 signatures were required within 18 months to bring the initiative to a national vote. However, the activists managed to collect only about half of the required number with just weeks remaining before the deadline.

“We knew from the start that it was a long shot. For now, we will let the initiative lapse, but progress towards the goal has been made,” said campaign founder Yves Bennaim.

The organizers of the Bitcoin Initiative proposed that the central bank hold the first cryptocurrency in its reserves alongside gold, dollars, and euros. They argued this would help diversify risks associated with fiat currencies.

The SNB has repeatedly opposed the idea of holding cryptocurrencies in its reserves. The head of the regulator, Martin Schlegel, pointed to high volatility, insufficient market depth, and the complexity of using digital assets for monetary policy purposes.

Last year, the price of Bitcoin fell by approximately 6.4%, and it has lost another 7.5% since the beginning of this year. However, with daily transaction volumes in the “tens of billions of dollars,” the asset is not illiquid, noted Bennaim.

According to him, the Bitcoin Initiative was an attempt to encourage the national bank to explore a technology that is transforming global finance.

“Bitcoin is an alternative to the dollar or euro, and like Switzerland, it is internationally neutral,” stated the crypto activist.

The quarter unfolded as Bitcoin fell 26.7% and total crypto market capitalization shed roughly $900 billion. Hyperliquid’s headline metrics declined with the market — holder revenue dropped 33.6% quarter-over-quarter to $149.90 million and perpetual derivatives volume fell 15.6%. Those numbers, the report argues, are not the story.
