The ongoing altcoin rotation isn’t happening in isolation. 

Instead, it is moving in tandem with USDT dominance, with the same down 2.7% over the week, breaking below the critical early-February support level of 7%. Declining USDT dominance typically signals liquidity flowing out of risk assets, which aligns with BTC.D hitting resistance as well. Together, these observations imply that investors have been expressing hesitation in allocating further into Bitcoin and may be gradually rotating capital elsewhere.

Notably, on-chain data further seemed to support this trend. At the time of writing, USDT flows had just recorded their largest exchange outflow in roughly three months, with -$1.29 billion in net USDT leaving exchanges on 08 May.

Typically, this is a bearish signal. However, when combined with a rising ETH/BTC ratio, it means that capital may be increasingly rotating into altcoins rather than exiting risk assets entirely.Naturally, this makes the decline in USDT dominance a key distinguishing factor in the current cycle.

If this trend holds, the rebound in the Altcoin Season Index, after retracing back to mid-July 2025 levels, could reflect potential exhaustion in altcoin selling pressure. Combined with the ETH/BTC gaining strength, the broader altcoin market may begin to follow suit, making this a key setup to watch for divergence from the February-April altcoin rally structure.

Ripple SVP Confirms $XRP Is Essential to $RLUSD on XRPL

At Consensus 2026 in Miami, Ripple SVP Jack McDonald delivered one of the clearest explanations yet of how $XRP and $RLUSD work together. His message was unmistakable: $RLUSD isn’t replacing $XRP, it relies on $XRP to function on the $XRP Ledger.

Explaining how $RLUSD functions on the $XRP Ledger, McDonald emphasized that $XRP remains essential to the network’s infrastructure. As the ledger’s native gas token, $XRP powers every $RLUSD transaction processed on XRPL behind the scenes.

While reinforcing $XRP’s central role in facilitating activity across the network, he said:

“Everything that we’re doing on the $XRP Ledger with $RLUSD requires us to use $XRP.”

McDonald described $XRP as the “grease in the wheel” powering $RLUSD activity on the $XRP Ledger, highlighting its critical role in enabling fast and efficient transaction flow across the network. His remarks push back against speculation that $RLUSD could diminish $XRP’s importance.

Instead, Ripple appears to be strengthening a dual-asset ecosystem where $RLUSD delivers price stability while $XRP continues to power liquidity, transaction fees, and core network functionality.

Security researchers are currently reacting to two Linux kernel vulnerabilities, which are forcing crypto infrastructure operators into urgent security reviews.

On April 29, researchers publicly disclosed a critical local privilege escalation flaw dubbed CVE-2026-31431 or “Copy Fail” in the Linux kernel’s crypto API. Copy Fail reportedly affects every distribution made from 2017.

Copy Fail was confirmed active and immediately added to the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on May 1.

Less than two weeks later, even before many organizations completed mitigation work for Copy Fail, another Linux privilege escalation chain called “Dirty Frag” hit the wild.

Dirty Frag was publicly disclosed on May 7. It reportedly combines CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500 to obtain root privileges through Linux kernel memory-management flaws.

Researchers report that Dirty Frag can manipulate memory allocation patterns to overwrite privileged kernel objects and eventually gain root-level execution.

Unlike Copy Fail, Dirty Frag had no available patches at the time of disclosure.

The crypto space is exposed to the Copy Fail and Dirty Frag vulnerabilities, as most core crypto infrastructure runs on Linux.

Crypto exchanges use Linux servers to manage wallets and execute trades. Some of the cn-chain validators on PoS blockchains, like Ethereum and Solana, usually operate on Linux-based environments. The same goes for crypto custodians.

Due to this, researchers view Copy Fail and Dirty Frag as a risk to crypto platforms.

Copy Fail already has patches available. However, deploying kernel updates across live crypto infrastructure is rarely simple. Dirty Frag presents the biggest risk, given that there are currently no official patches to deploy.

The 4H chart shows $BTC trading inside a clean ascending channel since the April lows near $65,000, with price now pressing the upper boundary near $82,000. The 20 EMA at $80,337 is the immediate support level, sitting just below current price. The Parabolic SAR at $79,525 has stayed bullish throughout the channel, but price is increasingly losing momentum near the top rail.

Meanwhile, analyst CryptoJack flagged that $BTC has already filled 85% of the upper CME gap while lower CME gaps remain wide open, and liquidation clusters are stacking below current price. Traders who chased the breakout above $80,000 on FOMO are now sitting at risk if institutional players decide to flush the move before continuing higher.
