Traders are the big winners as 24/7 stocks will finally end the after-hours price 'manipulation'


If the closing bell has long been a business model, then 24/7 trading is an attempt to break it. As the NYSE, Nasdaq, CME and Cboe race to introduce round-the-clock trading, the question is who stands to gain and who could lose.

The answer is quite simple, Mati Greenspan, CEO and founder of Quantum Economics, told CoinDesk: “The biggest losers in 24/7 stock trading won’t be traders: they’ll benefit massively. It'll be the middlemen who’ve long made money when traders can’t trade.”

Greenspan, also a market analyst, alleged that when markets reopen after what he called a big event, “a handful of firms decide the first tradable price. Oftentimes, they will explicitly use a price that triggers stop losses for their clients, closing them out at a loss and making a profit for the broker who is essentially trading against the client.”

When Greenspan was asked whether brokers coordinate around pricing during market closures, he was blunt in his claim: “Yes, manipulation outright.”

“They basically get to control prices, often with hours to strategize," he said. “Often hunting stops losses. When big news happens on weekends, the house tends to take liberties with pricing at the opening bell.”

His comments come as several major U.S. exchanges are looking to offer around-the-clock trading services. The NYSE said it is seeking SEC approval for 24/7 trading. Nasdaq announced similar plans in December. CME plans to roll out 24-hour crypto futures in 2026, pending approval, and Cboe recently expanded U.S. index options to 24/5 trading.

According to U.S. officials, an F-15E Strike Eagle was brought down by Iranian forces. The aircraft, which carries both a pilot and a weapons systems officer, went down during active operations. One crew member was successfully rescued in a combat search-and-rescue mission, while the second crew member remains missing.
During that same rescue effort, an A-10 Thunderbolt II sent to assist was also hit by Iranian fire. The pilot managed to eject safely and was later recovered by U.S. forces.
These incidents challenge recent statements from U.S. officials claiming full air superiority over Iran, raising questions about the accuracy of public messaging around the conflict’s progress.
Meanwhile, verified images reported by CNN showed rescue aircraft flying at low altitude over Khuzestan Province, where search operations are still ongoing for the missing crew member.

NovaBay Pharmaceuticals is moving deeper into crypto, announcing a full strategic pivot that includes a rebrand to Stablecoin Development Corporation and a shift toward on-chain treasury and staking activities.

In a Form 8-K filing, the company said it will adopt the new name and begin trading under the ticker SDEV on the NYSE American on 3 April. The move marks a significant transition from its legacy pharmaceutical business toward a crypto-focused operating model.

From pharma to on-chain strategy

The filing shows that the company is no longer experimenting with digital assets but actively restructuring around them. NovaBay disclosed holdings of approximately 2.06 billion SKY tokens as of 16 March, alongside accumulated staking rewards.

Rather than holding crypto passively, the firm said it is engaging in “SKY-related on-chain activities,” including staking. This model allows token holders to earn yield by participating in network operations.

The shift effectively positions the company as an on-chain holding entity, aligning its treasury strategy with the mechanics of decentralized finance [DeFi].

A yield-focused crypto treasury

Unlike corporate Bitcoin strategies that focus on long-term price appreciation, NovaBay’s approach centers on yield generation. By staking its SKY holdings, the company is tapping into a recurring reward mechanism native to blockchain networks.

This structure suggests a different risk and return profile—one tied not only to token price movements but also to network activity and participation incentives.

The company did not provide detailed disclosures on how its SKY position was accumulated. Still, the scale of the holdings signals a high-conviction allocation.
