Bitcoin traders brace for $1 billion liquidation trap after inflation shock breaks $80,000

Traders are watching whether Bitcoin can defend $78,000 after hotter US inflation data interrupted its recovery from April lows.

Bitcoin's break below $80,000 has pushed traders toward a crowded leverage zone where a further decline could force about $1 billion of long positions out of the market.

According to CryptoSlate data, the largest cryptocurrency fell to as low as $78,725 after US inflation readings came in hotter than expected, weakening expectations that the Federal Reserve will be able to cut interest rates later this year.

Figma’s stock tells a brutal story in numbers. The company reached its all-time high of $142.92 shortly after its IPO on August 1, 2025, then cratered to an all-time low of $16.60 on April 30, 2026 — a collapse of nearly 88% in under nine months. That’s the kind of drawdown that separates belief from conviction. Yet after Q1 2026 earnings, something shifted.

Figma posted its strongest quarterly earnings surprise as a public company, and the market responded accordingly. The stock surged 6.86% in aftermarket trading to $19.97, with pre-market action subsequently pushing it toward $22.00 — a total post-earnings move of roughly 12% from the prior close.

Crypto investors have lost more than $100 million to physical extortion in the first four months of 2026, according to blockchain security firm CertiK, as criminal groups increasingly target the people behind digital wallets rather than the technology securing them.

Another European Union Member State Has Approved MICA in Its Parliament! Here Are the Details

The Polish Parliament has taken a critical step in the comprehensive regulation process for the country’s digital asset market by approving a bill that will align with MiCA, the European Union’s framework for regulatory compliance with crypto assets.

The government-backed regulation aims to bring Poland into compliance with European Union standards by July. Otherwise, cryptocurrency companies operating in the country risk losing their licenses and permission to provide services.

The adoption of the new regulation coincides with a deepening of a wide-ranging investigation into Zondacrypto, one of the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. Polish prosecutors are investigating allegations of fraud stemming from withdrawal problems on the platform. Initial estimates suggest the total losses incurred by users amount to 350 million zloty, or approximately $96 million.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in a statement in April, hinted at links between the Russian mafia and Russian intelligence services in the Zondacrypto scandal. These remarks heightened political tensions in the country and brought the security aspects of cryptocurrency regulation to the forefront.

However, the legislative process is still fraught with political uncertainty. President Karol Nawrocki had previously vetoed two similar cryptocurrency regulation bills presented by the government, arguing that they would place an excessive burden on the industry. Nawrocki had presented an alternative bill that included lower fines.

Other proposals under consideration in parliament include a motion advocating for a complete ban on cryptocurrency activities. However, the adoption of the current bill is seen as a significant milestone for Poland in aligning with European crypto regula

Two major US exchange powerhouses are moving against a top decentralized trading venue. According to Bloomberg, CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which owns the New York Stock Exchange, are urging US authorities to regulate Hyperliquid amid concerns that its largely offshore, lightly regulated trading environment could be vulnerable to market manipulation and sanctions evasion.
