What started as a massive exploit has now entered a more worrying phase.
The entity behind the ~$290 million breach of Kelp DAO is no longer sitting still. They’ve begun moving large amounts of stolen ETH — a classic sign that the laundering process is underway.
💸 Funds on the move
On-chain data shows that around 75,700 ETH (~$175 million) has already been transferred across newly created wallets:
25,000 ETH sent to a fresh address
50,700 ETH split into another wallet
Smaller test transfers (like 0.7 ETH) used to probe routes
Even more concerning: part of these funds has already passed through privacy-focused protocols like THORChain and Umbra.
That’s usually the point where recovery becomes significantly harder.
🧩 A ripple effect across DeFi
This isn’t just a single protocol problem anymore — it’s spreading:
Arbitrum has already frozen 30,766 ETH tied to the exploit
Aave could be facing $123M–$230M in bad debt
The attacker reportedly used stolen funds as collateral to borrow more assets
It’s the DeFi version of a domino effect.
⚠️ The core issue: a single point of failure
At the center of the debate is LayerZero.
LayerZero claims the breach was caused by a 1-of-1 verifier setup — meaning:
Only one validator was needed to approve cross-chain messages.
That effectively created a single point of failure, allowing a malicious transaction to be treated as legitimate.
Kelp DAO, however, disputes this:
Says the setup followed default configurations
Argues the vulnerable component is part of LayerZero’s own infrastructure
So now, the question isn’t just what failed — but who is responsible.

Ripple Unleashes Bold Plan To Make XRP Fully Quantum-Resistant By 2028

Quantum computing has emerged as a key focal point in the tech and crypto sector in recent days, particularly after Google suggested that a sufficiently advanced machine could potentially break legacy blockchains using far less computational power than previously believed.

XRP holders may see some relief after Ripple today unveiled a plan to make the XRP Ledger (XRPL) quantum-proof by 2028. The initiative is part of a multi-phase roadmap aimed at upgrading the network’s cryptographic security well before “Q-Day” becomes a real threat. 

In a blog post published on April 20, Ripple stated that although quantum computing does not pose an immediate threat, rapid progress in the field has made the risk credible enough to warrant proactive measures today.

Ripple outlined a detailed roadmap to protect the XRP Ledger from potential quantum computing threats, with a full transition to quantum-resistant security measures targeted for 2028.

The urgency behind Ripple’s timeline is driven by recent research from Google Quantum AI, which estimates that roughly 500,000 physical qubits would be required to break ECDLP-256 cryptography. This marks a significant revision of earlier assumptions, effectively reducing the estimated resource requirement by around 20 times.

According to Ripple, there is also the “harvest now, decrypt later” risk, where malicious actors could collect publicly available encrypted blockchain data today, store it, and potentially decrypt it in the future once quantum computing becomes powerful enough. This poses a particular concern for long-term holders of digital assets, where data security must remain intact for years or even decades.

Strategy’s latest Bitcoin [BTC] purchase brings supply tightening back into focus, as corporate accumulation continues to reshape market structure.

The firm bought 34,164 BTC for $2.54 billion, which makes it its third-largest weekly purchase on record.

That comparison matters because the only larger weekly buys came in November 2024, when Strategy acquired 55,500 and 51,780 BTC for $5.4 billion and $4.6 billion, respectively.

This places the current move in a clearer context, showing that large-scale accumulation has returned at a meaningful pace.

A consortium of 12 European banks operating under the Qivalis venture has selected Fireblocks to build the infrastructure for a MiCA-compliant euro stablecoin, with a launch targeted in the second half of 2026, pending approval from Dutch regulators.

Qivalis, incorporated in Amsterdam and backed by major institutions including BBVA, BNP Paribas, ING, and UniCredit, plans to issue a fully regulated, 1:1-backed euro token structured as an electronic money institution under Dutch supervision.
